It's turning out to be another HPR all the major orders of radars are going to foreign companies even though local alternatives are available.

At this point govt. should make clear that local defence R&D is nothing but a joke & wastage of tax payers money.

If we're actually going in for the Voronezh OTHR then it's quite likely we've hit a roadblock. We'd eventually realise the technology on our own but not in the timeframe we want to . Hence Russian collaboration / import.

Secondly if we're to build up a grid to detect stealth we need it in time for when we go up against the Chinese which by all calculations is by the end of this decade. Quite obviously the calculation is we won't be coming up with an indigenous solution by then.

Not everything is to be seen thru the lens of the forces or powers that be are in love with imports. Operational efficiency is also important especially now that one component - the IAF's flying & fighting strength is seriously compromised vis a vis China.

You need stealth detection , ISR capabilities & capacities apart from various types of SAMs in huge numbers to offset that disadvantage. While we're working on the latter two aspects , it seems we've no choice but to go in for imports cum local production in case of the former.

Of course we need a lot of other elements to offset the disadvantage of the IAF , some of which we're working on & some we aren't for inexplicable reasons , but that's another argument.

This is one foreign purchase I will support because it urgently plugs a gaping hole in India's aerial defense network. Besides we can copy this system and make two more systems. That will be sufficient for India's needs.

Any idea if the yahoodi HPRs we ordered will be later accompanied by indigenous HPRs just like Arudhra MPRs later filled the part of MPR requirement. Could the same thing be said for this LRR/VLRR radar.

One thing which is the most funny for yahoodi HPR is that it's the same damn Elm 2084 MPR but just 4 walled. As always just enjoy this 🤡 show.

There is stark difference between guided and non guided versions of pinaka
In guided versions there is a cap falling off the launcher which is visible in the video in normal versions there is no cap present

Guided hai, just before the missile fires you can see something falling from the launcher/tube

I think we are making a mistake here.

We have LRR from LRDE which is meant to supplement the existing LRTR radars( Swordfish ). LRR is a L band radar.

LRDE has also developed an aesa VHF band radar which BEL Ghaziabad flagged off some days back. It can be scaled up to have a long range radar but it will take some time.

I believe what we are co developing or buying from Russia is the UHF band Voronezh DM. AMPL is the DcPP and LRDE is also involved in this project. And under this umbrella deal, we are also developing another two radars. One for space situation awareness for ISRO. Another is a dedicated L band long range radar for BMD purposes known as LR ASSTR.

If you look at this pic, you will find that there are two VLRR radar designs under UHF sub heading. I believe one is from LRDE and the other is a JV design. But I may be wrong. GibVaUuWwAAIe7U (1).webp

For those interested in knowing how will we counter stealth, please go through this excellent primer on the topic especially the second half tif the article - Countering Stealth Technologies.

Pls also note that we're integrating the radar systems not just of our services but all such existing radars & systems including in the civilian domain into a seamless network cum targeting solution which also includes the proposed Voronezh radar & its derivatives.
