DRDO and PSU's

I was talking about the plains of Punjab and Gujarat and the deserts of Rajasthan!!

There it'll be facing enemy formations, sniping enemy assets from way behind our armoured columns with 20km ranged Helina.

Doing this isn't necessary for LOAL missiles. You launch the ATGM in general direction of the enemy to search & destroy. Plus now there are drones to scout.

Longbow isn't obsolete, but there are cheaper alternatives now

1. For the high altitude areas where the heavy helos can not perform as has been clearly demonstrated by that IAF Apache.
2. To make up the numbers as they are cheaper. By the way, just because I said Prachand won't be AS effective, does not entail they won't be effective at all!! It's still a very potent attack helo in its own right and will do wonders when accompanied by the Apaches with their Longbow radars marking the targets at beyond the horizon for them .
Then we need to get such radar on Prachand too , it should've already been into test run, but no such news if it's even planned or not.
Chongs are already displaying Z-10 of Prachand category with such mounted radar. Can't say if operational or not but it's also being sold to Porkies right now.

So why are we buying LCH then??

We spent 3 billion and now all answers coming with if and but
Tell me why do you never do any research on your own and just spam BS on this forum? A simple Google search would give you the answers you seek. People are not here just to spoonfeed your low effort questions.

LCH was developed specifically for high altitude operations after the military was found lacking in CAS during the Kargil war.

Apache is for the deserts/plains of Rajasthan and Gujarat. We're using Apache in Ladakh because we don't have a dedicated attack helo in service as of now.

LCH has been deployed in Ladakh since 2020. The IAF/IA were impressed enough with it to do so before it got FOC.

You don't get his point. If LCH was good enough for the mountains, it is also good enough for the plains as well. IA needs to get into the game of realising incremental gains and build the helicopter they want it to be while maintaining "Make in India" initiative and avoid any possibility of sanctions or having its balls being squeezed by another foreign nation and paying steeply through its nose necessitating sacrifices of various weapon and armenent programs.

The longbow radar is not impossible to duplicate and adapt it for Indian conditions. We could have use the $3 billion dollars to fund such upgrades to the LCH and make it truly comparable to the Apache program.

Agreed but jstars are much more expensive and in today's long range bvr there survivability is questionable.

The point regarding LCH in Rajasthan may or may not be true. Not all Apaches have longbow either. The US army and the National guard predominantly use Apaches without it.

The IAF has had Rudra's deployed in Rajasthan since 2013. They will deploy LCH most probably as well.

But, the point of Apaches vs LCH is like asking Arjun vs a 25 ton light tank. The light tank can be deployed in Rajasthan, but is it the optimal choice? Similar analogy for tank deployment in Ladakh.

Both Apache and LCH are required.

I think it is your own requirement.

Kargil committee recommended high altitude attack helicopter but we brought Apache. Which is not unsuitable.

Now tell me which study suggested Apache for plains??
IA buying just 5 Apache is it enough for plains?? Or if is just money wasting?

Tell me why LCH is not adequate for plains??
