DRDO and PSUs

🤷‍♂️ while i appreciate indigeneous, atmanirbhar vs phoren import point,
M777 still is a lighter artillery than contemporary 155mm thing by good 8-9 tonnes, at around 4.5-5 tonnes, it's in similar range of our 105mm IFG, and to achieve this those brits and americans sacrificed APU and other things, it's got no autoloader, no self-mobility or anything, but a titanium bodied basic lightweight howitzer that can fire range of 155mm rounds

i'm not sure at which year Kalyani presented his 155mm ULHs, but any future order for such lightweight howitzers should go to him

The Union Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Thursday (March 27, 2025) signed contracts worth ₹2,500 crore for the procurement of the tracked version of the Nag Anti-Tank Missile System (NAMIS) for the Indian Army’s mechanised formations, and another with Force Motors Limited and Mahindra & Mahindra Limited for around 5,000 light vehicles for the Armed Forces

First indigenous ATGM into IA. Believing this will be NAG-1
I believe the army has been told that there will be no more piecemeal imports of SPIKE NLOS into the forces.

It is also possible that these are HELINAG for the imminent LCH deal for the IA and IAF.

Those 5000 light vehicles.
Are they mahindra armado?
Or a non armoured vehicle?

Likely Mahindra Armado + NAG combination for mountain warfare against China. There is news of a 72 Division being raised for the 17 Mountain Strike Corps to bolster Northern Command.

Indian Army’s new 72 Division being raised in Eastern Ladakh

Sources within India’s defence establishment told ThePrint that the Army had initially received clearance to raise the 72 Division for the 17 MSC, which at the time only had the 59 Division.

“The 72 Division was originally meant to be under the Mountain Strike Corps but based in Pathankot for operations in Eastern Ladakh while 59 Division would have taken care of the areas under Eastern Command, one source told ThePrint.”

However, in response to the growing tensions with China, operational plans were modified, including shifting focus towards strengthening forces in the northern borders. As a result, the 72nd Infantry Division has been placed under the Northern Command.
“The 72 Division will continue to be northern border focused but will now operate under Northern Command,” the source quoted above further said, adding that the ORBAT changes include the transfer of a Division to the 17 MSC.

Once the 72 Division is fully raised and operational, the process which is on, the Uniform Force will be redeployed back to Jammu and Kashmir to bolster security there.

He has 2 ultra light howitzer the stainless steel weigh 6.6 tons and the titanium weigh 4.6 tons.
I think it has completed internal trials. Army should do it's trials and should give improvement recommendations as it's first as such to have ever come up in india it will need improvements i suppose so.
Drdo should assist bf.

Atleast an atgm went in production
Yeah 140 crore per vehicle with just 22-23 missiles each lol smells like either a massive scam or a typo.

This was 7 years back ☝🏼

Don't know if the old proposal ever went into reality and those 25 were ever ordered, but current deal suggests at least 80 NAMICAs along with 1000 missiles compared to older proposal (and accounting for inflation).

Only 13 NAMIS/NAMICA ordered, less than 300 missiles (For ₹1800 cr). We expect too much from YKWs.

So basically nothing new, even earlier it was reported "13 were inducted/ordered" on various news articles and Wikipedia, so maybe none were ordered and this is first order for just 13 vehicles.

Its getting same treatment as arjun
Successfully killed and dumped
Multiple foreign atgms have been procured and it's just piecemeal order to show off their "atmanirbharta" and it's their old practice
No more namis or nag will be procured
It took them 5 years to place order for 13 platforms show their intent
Anyone believing that after negotiating for 5 years and procuring only 13 units with less than 300 missiles, they will further procure it is too naive

I believe it's nag mk2 which is ordered
Army has , suggested manu changes, like rcws on namica and other small changes,

Successful Field Evaluation Trials of indigenously-developed third-generation Anti-Tank Fire-and-Forget Guided Missile ‘Nag Mk 2’
Posted On: 13 JAN 2025 7:20PM by PIB Delhi
Field Evaluation Trials of indigenously-developed Nag Mk 2, the third-generation Anti-Tank Fire-and-Forget Guided Missile, were successfully conducted recently at Pokhran Field Range in the presence of senior officers of the Indian Army. During the three field trials, the missile systems destroyed precisely all the targets - maximum and minimum range, thus validating its firing range.

The Nag Missile Carrier version-2 was also field evaluated. With this, the entire weapon system is now ready for induction into the Indian Army.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, Indian Army and industry for the successful field evaluation trials of the entire weapon system of Nag Mk 2.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D & Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat appreciated the efforts of all the stakeholders for making the missile ready for induction into the Indian Army
