No repercussions beyond people who criticize ones-who-shall-not-be-named on Twitter getting the stick.

If Voldemorts are not going to change their ways by themselves, only the political class and babooze joining forces can put pressure on them.

For whatever reason(s) for the past decade most import was being denied anyway except for certain things like rifles or off the shelf purchase of Rafale.

At the end of the day however IDDM will be cheaper than direct import or screwdriver-giri so to pad the numbers of their organizations, Voldemorts have to make the choice

Either way, I think you guys are worrying a bit too much over imports. This govt is fiscally hyperconservative - they will never release enough funds to make way for the kind of toys genrols want in large nos. It is also why most of the past imports were inducted in paltry numbers (in the past 5 years, at least).

Defense preparedness vs Self Reliance.

There is no black and white here both must happen simultaneously.
This is the time to firmly stand behind indigenous product and trust the Industry.
Gormint has to facilitate Defense preparedness and Gnerails must facilitate self Reliance.

That being said the gormint has done disservice to the nation by not keeping the Generails in check. A few CBI enquiry and some court martials will software update the general's like how congress did for its own benefits.

My problem is not imports per se

It is capability gap of the forces viz adversaries in terms of numbers, leave tech aside, because of back and forth and tug of war between chindi/IDDM pushing Govt and import-loving Voldemorts wanting bulk orders of foreign toys.

Voldemorts know the Govt is chindi and will not give them the expensive imports in large quantities they want, but instead of making their peace with this like the Navy did many decades ago and start designing/developing/purchasing whatever they need from within the country, they are busy stonewalling existing projects like Tejas or ATAGS or MGS or whatever else.

So that the Govt is forced to consent to Imports, ofc this scheme to "force" the Govt doesn't work and neither the Govt's scheme to force IDDM on Voldemorts, and the winners of this are Pakistan and China.

A peace deal between Govt and Voldemorts can be a piece meal procurement of the allegedly HiGh TeCh and PrOvEn imports in exchange for large orders of domestic gear, but Voldemorts don't even want that.

I mean the same chindi Govt is ok with importing 26 Rafales from France for the Navy, but then the Navy is also gigachad🗿 and has never bothered the Govt for importing ships as the mainstay of the fleet.
 
Every in the red is being expected to be given to us by foreign OEM, I honestly don't understand how the babus convinced themselves & the PMO that goras would give us such crucial technology, I fear that it will end up as 2016 Kaveri saga, Frenchies would suck our money & we will end up with nothing, other than screwdrivergiri 🪛

Edit : I want to add one more thing here, for godsake steal some technology, throw this useless " India is a good boy,India respects IPR, India won't do Industrial Espionage" virtue into a dustbin

If I was the GoI i'd use this as an opportunity to do reverse engineering on the foreign parts we get and do some industrial espionage on the side also to ToT providers like the juke-master Frenchies.

Ofc any such activities have to be top-secret, which is why i want the Gas Turbine project to get "strategic" funding and "strategic project" type secrecy.

You are correct the goras won't give their Crown Jewel technologies especially the Frenchies for any sum of money, so we have to take it by hook or crook.

I mean do they even know how critical are these components that they think it will be shared by safran or RR

One simple reason why frenchies won't give us jet engines tech

They gave Viking engine tech to ISRO, the later have successfully absorbed it, made the Vikas engines, now using that expertise gained over these many decades to design & develop LME-1100, which will power NGLV-SOORYA which will be the direct competitor to French Ariane-Next.

Now,Why do you think French would repeat the same mistake of Viking engine?

I was reading about Barak-8 SAM development, and basically after scoring L after L in trying to develop SAMs alone( including 30 years to get Aakash SAM out apparently ), DRDO wagera was told by Navy/MoD to do a joint venture and sometime later they found the Israelis.

In Barak-8 the seeker and electronics come from Israel, India contributed the rocket motor, TVC and actuators/fins.

This is the same model, for DRDO/HAL/GTRE to get the engine out of the door even though the core of it comes from abroad.

Having a working engine with foreign component is better than only having delays.

If they are serious about the engine though we can go all Chinese on these foreign core components as i've said in previous post, seedhi ungli se to ghee nahi nikalne wala.

Reminder the French Aerospace industry was barely holding on before KGB Tsar's invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions of Roosi hw lead them to be bathing in Rafale orders.

It is fully retarded to expect the French of all people to gift their crown jewel gas turbine tech to us, i don't think the one-exam-wonders are that dumb.

Exactly they arent like us who forget their past what we did with viking is still fresh for them
Infact whenever I read about vikas I think the marvels we can achieve if we have proper funding and leadership
They have milked us during mirage upgrades and scorpene subs and they will milk us in future with so called 110kn engine
