DRDO and PSU's

I was reading about Barak-8 SAM development, and basically after scoring L after L in trying to develop SAMs alone( including 30 years to get Aakash SAM out apparently ), DRDO wagera was told by Navy/MoD to do a joint venture and sometime later they found the Israelis.

In Barak-8 the seeker and electronics come from Israel, India contributed the rocket motor, TVC and actuators/fins.

This is the same model, for DRDO/HAL/GTRE to get the engine out of the door even though the core of it comes from abroad.

Having a working engine with foreign component is better than only having delays.

If they are serious about the engine though we can go all Chinese on these foreign core components as i've said in previous post, seedhi ungli se to ghee nahi nikalne wala.

Reminder the French Aerospace industry was barely holding on before KGB Tsar's invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions of Roosi hw lead them to be bathing in Rafale orders.

It is fully retarded to expect the French of all people to gift their crown jewel gas turbine tech to us, i don't think the one-exam-wonders are that dumb.
Incase of barak-8/MR-SAM we dont have tech of seeker assembly but the development of dual pulse motor and tvc helped us a lot in Astra series of missiles and isrealis really helped us in maturing the tech but they can independently manufacture barak-8 as they have exported to azerbaijan but we cant
But recently if I remember correctly drdo developed seeker for MR-SAM (pls correct if I am wrong) in that case we can cut our dependency

Atleast today situation is bit better as KSSL is assembling barak-8 seekers

We can RE the core as today our industry is capable but again we need support and leadership

Atmost the entire fiasco will end up like shakti engines

A point will come where to get the whole tech know-how/know-why for Gas Turbines we will have to some reverse engineering or industrial espionage on either the Ruskie or the Frenchies.

The political, diplomatic and logistical( spare parts are not sold to us ) fallout of either should be kept in mind.

Ching cloned the Su-27, screwing over the license production agreement with Roos but they got away with it by doing a monetary settlement with Roosi.

The main problem here is Kaveri gas turbine project is not taken seriously, from that seriousness flows funding and the other "directives" necessary to full indegnize it's production with no foreign dependencies.

Whole of Govt approach is needed, political class, babus, DRDO scientists and the IAF top brass wherever needed.

Successful Field Evaluation Trials of indigenously-developed third-generation Anti-Tank Fire-and-Forget Guided Missile ‘Nag Mk 2’

Posted On: 13 JAN 2025 7:20PM by PIB Delhi

Field Evaluation Trials of indigenously-developed Nag Mk 2, the third-generation Anti-Tank Fire-and-Forget Guided Missile, were successfully conducted recently at Pokhran Field Range in the presence of senior officers of the Indian Army. During the three field trials, the missile systems destroyed precisely all the targets - maximum and minimum range, thus validating its firing range.

The Nag Missile Carrier version-2 was also field evaluated. With this, the entire weapon system is now ready for induction into the Indian Army.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, Indian Army and industry for the successful field evaluation trials of the entire weapon system of Nag Mk 2.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D & Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat appreciated the efforts of all the stakeholders for making the missile ready for induction into the Indian Army.

If it isn't NLOS in 2025, then what is the point ? I hope it is
You need everything; there is no such weapon that can have all the pros without any cons. BrahMos is such an excellent weapon yet we felt the need to develop a new, significantly mediocre AShM compared to it.

NLOS surely gives you more range but it also halves your magazine depth because everything in weapons designing is a compromise.

As of now there's no indication of it being a NLOS. But Nag is one of two most developed missile platforms by DRDO; Nag, HELINA, SANT, MP-ATGM...so rest assured, we'll have a NLOS too.

What I meant was the missile looks like an iterative development of nag missile (which understandable) rather than a new break through such as NLOS.

I Should've worded it better

NAMICA Mk2 with 4x Nag on BMP-2 chassis is more versatile than Mk1- IA orders, if any, will likely be small given inherent limits of the platform- NAMIS Mk2 will have better export potential- But Nag ATGM needs integration with 8x8, 4x4 wheeled platforms to truly proliferate..

Does this namica mk2 have any armor and engine improvements compared to base BMP-2?
