Its a good step if displays also start being developed here, in addition to the wafers manufacturing units being brought up by Tata by 2026 with PMSC in assam and dholera.

Must be a bengali top executive who is being loyal to his state igIt's too good to be true. I will hold on until they build it and operate it without Bengali Bhadraloks ruining it in the name of strikes.

As policies are much better and straight forward with better talent base in karnataka, tn, telangana, ap, up and gujarat
exactly, this seems to be a idrw styled clickbaitMy skepticism is not because of some Bong politicians saying it, it is because no announcement from Central government who will actually be the one who will be dispersing incentives. If the news is genuine Ashwani Vaishnav would have definitely announced it in front of the media. It is too good to be true and I don't think such a strategic project should be in a state which is unstable and riddled with uncertainties.
It's a "fabless" design center. And Fabless design centers are not uncommon in our country. The investment amount is smol as all it has to do is setup something like an IT park . WB govt is not averse to getting in highly paid designers .. this is like their IT policy . When there is an energy , water , manpower intensive sector in WB wake me up then.My skepticism is not because of some Bong politicians saying it, it is because no announcement from Central government who will actually be the one who will be dispersing incentives. Do you think we will somehow get EUV machines? This article says we are going to outsource manufacturing to TSMC for this.

i think dli will be placed this year in front of cabinet for chip design, that will allow the startups and big businesses to enter into this feild and use the talent base. within a decade we are getting some next level chipsets, i am sureBy 2030 when TSMC, Intel, Samsung, Micron would be having the new NA-EUV which will allow them to etch below 4nm chips, then maybe we will get EUV from ASML. I think etching 7nm chips will get us a long run way if we are able to do it by then. Right now, it is not like they won't give it. It's just that when we haven't even produced mature 28nm chip and run a fab, it is premature to think about making advanced chips at the cutting edge. I am happy at the very least a fab and some OSAT is under construction. Let's get a foot in the door first.
But I kind of agree, in the mean time let's buckle up with design teams. We need chip designers and fabless chip companies. AMD, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Apple are all fabless chip companies. We should have expert chip designers in the country so that we don't have to rely on American chips. Just like fabs, we need a starting point to stimulate chip design in the country. Never mind if we have to outsource manufacturing to TSMC in the short term.
