I really don’t like the wheels sticking out. They mar the beautiful profile of the fuselage outline.

Bro, here simplicity of design matters. The landing gears and their shock absorbers absorb most of the crash impact, before transferring them to the fuselage. Here fuselage also is crashworthy but only to an extend.

Moreover this simple design also keeps complexity in wheel folding mechanism, least to mention keeping it always available.

Majority of the attack helicopters follow this same design principles, including Apache, Tiger, Mangusta, z-10, MI-28, Rooivalk, etc

The only downside in this design is the aerodynamic performance(speed) impact, however they are negligible since most of the armaments themselves are carried externally. So they(external stores) would induce more drag than the landing gears themselves.
