Indian Army: News and Updates

MoD/MEA babus are taking PM for a ride it seems. Does he not realize the extremely naive thought of shifting production lines here doesn't work? Keeping aside competence aspect of a PSU which is gonna screwdriver them, US never gonna outsource crucial defence jobs. Modi thinks civilian industry is same as defence industry.

The PM is advised by Doval and a very competent bunch of Technocrats. Are they so incompetent that these Babus can take him for a ride?

Modi thinks the Civ Industry is the same as the defence industry means what? Are you calling our PM gullible ?

The deal is a trojan horse. On the guise of global export hub, once it comes here all the 8x8 will be systematically subverted. Since it's not babus money, they would be paying 5x cost for each spare part all while the OEM is laughing that Indians are easily fooled.

Boss the deal is extortion - the Same as the F-35 deal which will kill the AMCA effectively.

This is the top echelon Modi is surrounded by.

Lol can we stop deflecting blame away from the Current Govt. Buck stops at their feet.

Guys a bit of a unpopular opinion but hear me out.
We can never have enough land vehicles as such we can incorporate both Stryker and WhAP. This is possibly the least disruptive procurement, we win some and we lose some.

Stryker CONS

1. is a vehicle that we have no logistics for, (Ammo, Maintaince, Training)
2. Can ONLY be used in Ladhak
3. FOREX leaving
4. Taking awards away from Indian Manufacturers

Sorry, There is no spinning this. Even if the Indian army was on board this is the purest quality of BS.

Does the COAS not realize WHAP is already a system of just the kind he described? And is already getting exported.

All tweets below are in response to the video above...

View: https://x.com/cvkrishnan/status/1892253882644090933 ---> For too long we’ve romanticizes “soldiers’ general” far more compared to Cerebral thinking generals to our own detriment. Too many infantry officers at the top. Less knowledge and time to think about about mechanization, industrial capacity, ecosystems, future capability building!

View: https://x.com/EkNashwar/status/1892339132313035095 ---> Transfer Of Officers (TOO) may be more practical in IA than ToT. Discouraging display of institutional blindness towards technical independence and excellence. Institutional apartheid towards Indigenous platforms. No platform becomes proven until inducted.

View: https://x.com/AdithyaKM_/status/1892281811054842206 ---> ToT, ToT, ToT. That's all our senior defence officials seem to know. Or atleast say in public every other day. Not sure if they believe in it.

https://x.com/OpinionGalaxy20/status/18 ... 9072069796 ---> Total illiterate about the technology. Technology evolves with the number of iterations. Even a 200 line data structure requires at least 10 iterations to get it crisp and accurate, but these buffoons need foreign "proven" maal.

View: https://x.com/AdithyaKM_/status/1892279131707994168 ---> So COAS himself can't spell out a convincing case for Stryker, uses buzzwords: "integrated", "visualization", "firepower", FCS. All these are chassis agnostic & available in India. WhAP is a proper IFV and modular (a buzzword he missed). Note: Army had ordered only IPMV* variant, an APC*.

*IMPV: Infantry Protected Mobility Vehicle

*APC: Armoured Personnel Carrier

https://x.com/fishy_bong/status/1892554613351743991 ---> Look what I found. I always knew the import negative list was more or less a fraud list.

"Wheeled Armored Fighting Vehicle" is prohibited from import. Add to this where is a tender for comparative trials for all possible vehicle available in the market? So what actually is the Stryker? It is wheeled, it's a fighting vehicle and my hunch is that these guys will play around with the definition of armour to get this import done without falling into legal battle. It's a scam through and through. @INCIndia make good use of your existence take this issue up. Open to correct the interpretation of the document if mistakes on my side.

Sirji this is the most disruptive coz until now our dependence was on niche war fighting techs which will enhance our fighting capabilities but when it comes to ifv or apc these are as necessary as small arms to fight wars having dependency there will cost us heavily if Americans deny spares and necessary logistics
Don't compare these with t-90/72 or bmp coz the amount of indigenization achieved there will never be possible in case of Stryker
U can go and talk to any of avadi guy he will tell u how we have complete control over system and whatever orders going to russia are just for agreement of necessary they can ditch Russians

Has he ever visited the LUH factory to check its capabilities?
The "excessive cabin noise" excuse might push LUH to have the same result as Arjun MBT or worse.

In the pilot episode of BharatShakti's special series "Brass Talks" where we interview the Director Generals of various critical departments of the Indian military, our Editor Brig. SK Chatterji (Retd) speaks to Lt Gen RK Sahni, DG Information Services, of the Indian Army.

This interaction is important because warfare is changing with technology sweeping away legacy instruments and inducting new challenges. The Directorate General of Information Systems (DG IS) is at the centre of this changing environment trying to get the Army from being network centric to data centric.

Gen. Sahni explains the role of DG IS, that includes policy making for the Army, guidelines for software and hardware to include standardization, interoperability, automation, digitization and also AI absorption.

The DG IS continues with the Theme for Year 2024 that was declared as the ‘Year of Technology Absorption’ for Indian Army. The Directorate is working towards achieving the Army Chief’s vision, and national missions. 16 technology clusters have been created to include sensors, shooters, AI etc. The DG IS also deals with application development and AI.

AI is being utilised in various applications, while being aligned to government missions. The aim also is to provide common operational and logistics picture to all commanders. The OODA loop would be compressed while its turns would increase.

As far as the man-in-the-loop is concerned, he will always remain a critical resource. His knowledge, skills an competencies will need to be rightly developed.

The forces deal with information that has high security value. The requirement is being met primarily by the DG Signals and the DG IS.

The transition to Theatre Commands is on the anvil, and Bharatshakti is also informed how the DG IS is also involved in tri-service policy making and also evolving other applications essential for operations in a Theatre Command environment requiring intimate tri-service cohesion.

More about our Guest - Lt Gen RK Sahni. The officer is from the Corps of EME and held critical appointments. He has also been an instructor in the College of Defence Management.

Very interesting episode .

The Tweet says top down decision - if you read the tea leaves - very clearly seems like a CS decision to appease Trump. The buck falls with the PM.
Could very well result in a case of the IA rejecting it on grounds it doesn't meet operational requirements & GoI going back to the Trump administration with this news only to mollify them by buying what we need than something which was payback for the Pannu case & our ties with Russia .

I see this as a plausible scenario for the immediate danger namely the previous regime is gone & there's more harmony in the relationship with the US today than what it was a few months ago even on the issue of Russia.

Let's wait & watch this space.

The Ministry of Defence has signed a $248 million contract with Russia's Rosoboronexport to procure 1000 HP Engines for T-72 Tanks. This agreement includes the transfer of technology to Avadi's Heavy Vehicle Factory, enhancing the 'Make in India' initiative. Upgrading T-72 tanks from 780 HP to 1000 HP engines will significantly boost battlefield mobility and the Indian Army's offensive capabilities.

Having read it I just surfed a bit on military shoes. Turns out a factory in bihar has been exporting military boots to Russia

In the short clip one can really see the difference between these and the ones issued to Indian army manufactured by ofb(which I have seen personally also). Don't know why is crappy ofb shoe still forced on army when we have plethora of manufacturers at home
Another report

<Don't know why is crappy ofb shoe still forced on army?>

Don't know why Leaderji is still hell-bent on not shutting these no good OFBs down or privatising them or unshackling the armed forces from being compelled to buy from them. They served a purpose in the distant past or up until the early 2000s. Not anymore.

I'd extend this to Uniforms , Parachutes , Rucksacks , Boots obviously , etc. Why must the OFB continue to mfg these low tech items & why must DRDO have labs dedicated to developing such products. I'd extend this to packaged food items , high altitude kits , tents , etc.

I'd extend this logic to firearms - small & large & grenades too. Corresponding labs into R&D ought to merged with the Army Design Bureau & those OFBs privatised / sold / shut down.
