Indian Navy Developments & Discussions (26 Viewers)

It's likely that they haven't finalized the design and subsystems yet. Also Vizag class with around 8200 ton displacement had 48 barak-8 and 16 brahmos, if P-17b "frigates" are going to be 8000 tons , what kind of number can we expect.

This is most likely the file getting warmed under some baboo's behind awaiting CCS clearance.

subsystems, sensor, weapons fit is sem2sem.

Design must be different if the 8k ton displacement rumor is true
They could go for 2x heli hangars, heavyweight torpedos aside from more quantity of missiles

but the way the GRSE and MDL bosses say "P17A repeat order" in their transcripts me thinks the hull will be the same only missile maybe increased

with the same power back, the P-17A's speed was down to around 27-8 knots ...so no much more displacement increase would be more reasonable.

P-15B's total installed power with COGAG system - 4 Zorya-Mashproekt DT-59 reversible gas turbines each producing 16.55 MW + 14.8 MW from diesel engines + 4 MW from generator sets for a total of ~85mw. It's top speed is in excess of 33 knots. power/weight = 85000/8200 is 10.36kw/t

P-17A's total installed power with 2 GE LM2500+ gas turbine, each capable of producing 30,200 kW + 2 MAN diesel engines each producing 6mw for a total of ~72.4MW. power/weight = 72400/6670 is 10.85kw/t. So it has scope for more displacement.

And I think the 27-28 knots figure for P-17A is wrong.

Kolkata Vizags have displacement of 7300 tons.
Some monkey on wikipedia has changed it to 8200 tons for whatever reason recently 🤡

P-17/A is codog...and again. the best reference is P-17 -> P-17A evolution
Still P-15B gas turbine power is 66.2MW [~9.07kw.t] v/s P-17A's 60.4MW [~8.93].

Maybe scope to remove RBUs on P17B and limit displacement increase to around 7000t6800t.

Even P17 (Shivalik, CODAG) top speed is listed as 32 knots with 2 LM2500+ and 22 knots on diesel.

Also the Hobart class destroyer has a similar propulsion package and it is over 7000 tones. Hobart-class_destroyer

The Type-45 destroyer apparently only has 40MW propulsion power for 7,500 tones which comes out to 5.5kw/t. Type-45 destroyer.

The 8000 tone Type-26 Frigate has one 40MW gas turbine and four 2.2MW diesel engines for total installed power of around 50MW.

The > 6000 tone FREMM frigates have around 36MW.

Of course the Arleigh Burke class has 4 LM2500 so it's total power must be >100MW for a 10000 tone ship or 10-14kw/t depending on which version of the LM2500 they are using.

Can we use the latest LM2500+G4 version for P-17B? That would give an installed power of 70MW.

The Constellation class is going to be a 7400 tone ship with 1 LM2500+G4 giving 35MW gas turbine power. It will also have 12 MW diesel power. So total installed power is only 47MW.

No reason why the P-17Bs can't match or exceed the Constellation class in tonnage and weapon load.

nope bhaijaan, its ngf with totally different subsystems and lru with new combat system. few things will remain same, but overall p17b ngf is a good frigate, lets pray order amount crosses 12 units

No saar, P17B is a repeat order fo P17A, changes in core systems will be minimal.
Actual NGF is the one supposed to come after P17B, guess for that they bought the Japanese unirocn mast and all

Good luck intercepting a vessel with 8 x BrahMos and 24 x Shtil 1 SAM missiles. Nordcucks don't even have SAM systems to intercept one BrahMos.

Most of the comments are still sane except the last one

And this gem from the same thread

Anyway they should reach here as quickly as they can.
Imagine if the Pakis start something while they're sailing around Africa or some sht, they'll miss out on all the fun, very sad

Finnish navy have some 8 Missile boats with no subs. And swedish navy have Visby corvette and 4 submarines.

Absolute Cinema if INS Tamal launches the Brahmos accidently and sank an Finnish/Swedish ship.

Sorry vro.

Swecucks and Mongols only have corvettes and missile boats respectively.

Good luck to them
