I had missed those stories but it seems that you are correct. $4.5 billion? Interesting proposed location of the radar - Chitradurga, Karnataka. I suppose if you have a 6000-8000 km supposed range, it really doesn't matter where you put it and putting it in interior Karnataka in a location which is heavily protected because of the presence of other secret facilities makes good sense.

DRDO SAAW is pretty much going to be the Anti Runway Bomb. Based on few launcher photos we seen, our planes at optimal level can carry 4 SAAW or more than depends on requirement. Based on that it will swarm attack on runway.

In Ops Sindoor we decided to use one big bomb to rattle pigs. But in full blown kinetic action, I believe SAAW will be launched in large scale and take the runway at multiple areas.

True, but in my opinion, a 250kg HSLD bomb with JSR Dynamics' range augmentation kit would be a better option for runway busting as they are more specialised for that role. It's a lot better to explode the bomb ~1.5-2 meters UNDER the concrete runway rather than ON the runway.

The former will churn up the soil beneath the runway and displace a much larger area of concrete surface, which will make repairing all but impossible, thereby necessitating a complete reconstruction of the runway (if you manage to hit it at 6-8 places along its length that is), which would effectively put the airbase out of commission for basically the duration of the war.

But the latter will just create large craters on the runways, which can be repaired comparatively easily.

PS - If my memory serves me right, a single Su-30 can be configured to carry up to 24 SAAWs in one go (or 32, was it??).

I'm a bit confused on how exactly SU57s fulfill India's needs according to you here. It's not just about it being not "war proven". Its about zero support in terms of spares and untested design.

IAF has already rejected SU57. I don't see any reason to differ from their opinion (or use).

Honestly, if India could just manufacture it's own 4th gens, that'd be a way more solid long term strategy than getting a fifth gen jet from some nation which will either use it as a leash or go bankrupt suddenly when leaders swap (I strongly believe Russia will suffer terribly when Putin goes out of power).

either in this thread or IAF thread, there was a discussion on efficacy of SU-30 MKI. my reading of a few posts that caught my attention gave the impression that those posts were implying that SU-30 came out of the box fully suited for IAF's requirements.

whether it is SU-30 which ultimately became SU-30 MKI or jaguar or T-90 or T-72 or rafale etc., just a reminder to our newer members that none of imported maal comes as perfect fit for Indian military requirements, it is always the case that respective forces add their own modifications and integrations to ensure foreign maal caters to Indian scenarios. sometimes modifications are relatively easy, sometimes a bit harder/costly depending on the technology, but be assured there will be a indigenous component associated with it .

since AD is talk of the town, within AD you have seen live demonstration of how integration happens in op-sindoor. and integration means time in years, resource and money over and above acquisition process.

Everyone watches out for their interest. There are no friends only interests. India has substantially reduced purchasing Russian weapons and is opting for western arms increasingly.
