LCA TEJAS MK-I & MK-IA: News and Discussion

Was Tejas ever in contention? I don't really understand why HAL spent a lot of time ad money on trying to sell the aircraft to Egypt.

3 weeks since a GE F404-IN20 was delivered. The idea is to put this in a Mk1A airframe so it can fly. Any news on this happening?

Looks like LCA Mk-1 is on the verge of losing another order to RoK's F-50.

What else do you expect when India's own Air Force doesn't want it :bplease:

And no serious effort is made by the Govt to hawk it to foreign countries?

All the defence exforts the Nindaji talks about is jhumlebaazi only.

The Tejas will never win against the FA-50 in these countries. They are corrupt to boot and KAI always walks in with a fat wad of bribe money. It was even in Malaysian local news when the T-50 went up against the Tejas and won. Their air force denied all allegations of corruption and bribery, had the investigation shelved and brute forced the purchase. Same thing is happening in Egypt. Unlike India the Egyptians don't maintain a zoo of aircrafts for redundancy. They are simply too corrupt and will buy anybody's product if the bribe is right. They treat public tax money like fodder and weaponize it against their own lower class.

I don't know - do you think that Tejas would have got the Egypt or Malaysia deals on merit? What about Philippines?

Merit as a "fighter jet" sure, way better than fa 50.
But in other area like delivery on time(no delays), reliability, experience of export etc, Hal is far behind korean company.

Another thing is, malaysia was primary looking for "lead in/advance jet trainer" that can also be used as light fighter jet if required.
Now the problem here is, tejas has significantly higher landing speed than other fighters, and a "traine pilot" would struggle with landing the jet, while fa50 is a better/more friendly "lead in trainer".

Then are there thousands other reasons, political, bribe etc.

So if these countries are looking for "dedicated" fighter jet that just happens to be light ( though in terms of range and payload tejas is in same class as f16C/D(without conformal tanks) while being lot lighter and smaller) then tejas "as a fighter" will have advantage over fa50.
But in all other aspects korean company will have advantage over Hal.

But for countries looking dedicated light fighter jet they can spend a little more and get gripen or f16.
