Electronics and Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry

Shadow banned by US as it does not want high end stuff manufacturing in India. Time to invest research in your building your own machines, production lines. India shall not get same luxury as China in terms of investments period.

Saurav Jha indicated long ago that nodes < 14 nm SMC were not on the table as far as India goes. In fact earlier it was < 28 nm SMC but apparently the US relented after extensive discussions between Jake Sullivan & Ajit Doval when they conferred during the iCET negotiations & later when Modi & Biden met during the Quad meet around the same time.

Yes that and Biden Chip Act. Infact - it was given - west is wary and jittery and wants to wrest back high end manufacturing back to west while restrict and roll back China. Frankly in India we would need passionate domain specific Leaders empowered by government to start nitty - gritty building of supply chain in Hardware and Software.

For eg for Fab, invest in all ancillary industries which support Fab machine manufacturing and upkeep. Offer insane value proposition to Canon to get their DUV machines and their assembling in India at first. Lure them with Maruti and Suzuki example.

Agreed, without massive incentive we cannot get these less than 14nm node machines. May be start building 45nm, 28nm machines in India first. Then jump for 14nm nodes. Also without support from technical institutes like IITs, CDAC, CSIR, IISER along with Indian industries we cannot do this.

Not trusting the existing 1st gen dhandos, they chimp out for ToT.
2nd gen were wannabe elon musk and more inside Consumer app sector.
We should support the 2nd and 3rd gen folks who are in deep tech working hardly in Incubators.

For that to happen we need to break the IIT system which emphasizes churning out qualified robots on a assembly line for job market. What we need is big Universities which have everything on campus from Engineering to Medicine to MBA in one big 1,000 acre campus. The goal of these Universities should be purely research oriented. Bag the talent when they are young and pay them good money to stay in research. That is the only way we can innovate out of our misery instead of asking ToT with outside suppliers. However, IIT lobby is so strong even BJP is continuing this non sense of setting up more IITs. And some fucking morons in some IITs are setting up their campus outside India as if these fucking morons have achieved MIT brand level of quality.

We need to change our education system. Otherwise our mindsets will remain the same. It will always be about how much is sharmaji ka beta package after graduation discussion in Indian households rather than pursuit of knowledge. We are now investing $150 billion per year in CAPEX spending. I want to see a day where GoI allocated $150 billion per year for research in STEM fields.

Most don't know why is STEM lacking in India- it is due to Software Mindvirus that you can learn any thing outside of Software within months. Its not- we need Masters and PhD students in Core.

What's the use of again MBA and all that useless bunch? We need to first structure B.Tech in 3 years itself instead of 4 years. I myself from IIT Old 7 in ECE, I myself have to learn bullshit in first year that doesn't amount anything remotely to core domain knowledge. I have to study Chemistry, Biology, Physics again which I would never touch. The logic for this is that- it would give some cross domain exposure which is bullshit because cross domain exposure comes either in composite courses or organically imbued at Masters or Phd.

1. Another retarded thing is Electives- abolish Electives. In my fourth year, I took a Physics Elective+ Biology Elective because seats run out, another friend of mine being from ECE took Error Correction Codes and Electrical Machines. So both in Inte-Departmental and Intra-Departmental the Electives system is meaningless and failure. ECC and Electrical Machines have nothing to do with each other neither is Physics Elective and Biology Elective with my ECE Course. Abolish Electives and introduce Pathways in 3rd Year after 1st and 2nd year of Core Subjects.

2. Pathways are such that you can choose anyone of them with meaningfully grouped courses in Intra-Department. No longer would you be able to choose Electrical Machines with ECC or Signal Processing with VLSI. Pathways would be assorted set of Courses for example a pathway in Signal Processing could take core subjects like Digital Signal Processing, Probability and Random Processes, Estimation Theory, and even Machine Learning-based signal analysis.

3. Pathways are genius in a way such that one's final year pathway in B.Tech would seamlessly translate to Specializations in M.Tech so that there is no incoherence.

can anyone confirm this , i know it's totaly BS , pucnturewalla logic but still.

one dhruv t@tti fan colleague of mine told me that it's impossible to make semiconductors in india as india has not the correct weather and enviornment (dust and other pollutants) and all these investments are corruption and tax money wastage. :bplease: :bplease:

Complete BS, while there is issue with dust, I mean india is kinda dusty expect for monsoon. But you can just keep those factories insulated and it's not hard to get factory workers clean. Most medical labs require more stricter cleaning standards.

Feels like your colleagues wants those, money to be spent on punctureputras and putris

There is no such thing as correct weather. We are not going to make chips on a seasonal basis. We are not going to make chips under a tree . We can build whatever factory or facilities required for Semiconductor. Only one essential requirement is clean or ultrapure Water and apart from water, land and monetary requirements are fulfilled by State and central governments.

Druv tatti and his parrots are just trying to sow doubt on indias growth.
