Trust me the entire purpose of Buttstock for our jawans is to save the gun from recoil of jawan. We are not bisleri water drinking sodiers from KFC Land. We eat carrots and go for night hunting.

Jai jawan jai kisan (with 45% MSP)

For this, army itself has to tell the arde to go in detail for changes in the gun required. But I doubt the user is that much wiser.
The model of putting QRs and just test and choose the weapons that come is as stupid as it gets. User should and must actively participate in the refinement process of said weapons as well, given that user is actually knowledgeable enough to suggest changes.
bhai I'm not sure if you were there back then but under one of my gun post where i suggested possible improvements in one of desi firearms here, probably it was Ghaatak (i suggested it should have top rails and krebs customs styled tactical fire selector etc)

and Kunal Biswas dada made some comments in line that government agencies develop stuff according to RFP and GSQR, not the other way 🤷‍♂️, some other known and respected gun guy on the forum went by username "ghost" quickly retorted that no way a GSQR mentions that it should have this style of trigger or that style of fire selector, all these are very tunable features and if RFI or GSQR is/are causing such backwardness with red tapism then both parties better stop following it that literally and let the technicians do their job of development with free hand

it ensured lots of flame wars between them like in times where tu tu me me was strictly controlled in forum and eventually someone threw thread ban on "ghost" guy for poking too much, reminder kunal dada used to have mod privilege and was also serving member in armed forces in some capacity so he might have had some biases about lots of things, his insistence about INSAS being good rifle in quite "Nyet, Rifle is Fine" meme way was quite known already

so personally i do lean towards what you suggest here, but somehow babudumbs, both uniformed and civilian ones, aren't letting it happen

The 6.8 General Purpose (XM1186) round still cannot one shot a NIJ LVL IV Plate Armor at 100m out of the planned 13'' barrel variant.

If the Indian Army wants to punch NIJ LVL 4 armor reliably using the 7.62x51 mm round and the Sig 716i rifle, it needs to ensure muzzle velocity is atleast 3000m/s using a tungsten-carbide like penetrator. The way to achieve this is by :
  • Increase barrel length from 16'' to atleast 20''
  • Use specialized ammunition like M993 (Piercing 8) or 7.62 Armor Piercing (Piercing 10) rounds
  • Designate 3 riflemen as SDMR in 'Jaeger/Skirmisher' infantry sections with the modified rifles with atleast 2-3 magazines with specialized ammunition

From Reddit :
The 716 isn't as proprietary as everyone believes.

It's a bit of a Frankenstein. The receiver threads for the barrel nut are armalite pattern, 1 7/16" - 18 TPI. The bolt and barrel extension however are DPMS pattern.

So barrel upgrades and caliber changes are very much possible. Just buy a DPMS pattern LR308 barrel and your bolt will headspace correctly with it. Bolt lug length and bolt face counterbore depth are a perfect match to dpms pattern specs. In other words SIG used LR308 bolt and barrel extension specs.

Here is what you will need.

Dpms pattern barrel with gas port drilled 9" from breech face (approx 9.450" from port center to back edge of barrel extension) and turned down to .750" at the gas block delta. From the front of the barrel extension flange to the back face of the gas block measures 6.75" The piston system gas block is going to be the limiting factor for barrel contour. Plus you will need to have the gas block pin holes drilled into the barrel by a competent smith.

I'm sure SSS Defence can make some kind of conversion kit given that they have already made the T72 Squad Designated Marksman Rifle (SDMR) in house.
