what are the current theories on what is U.S planning for BD next?

it's either china or India who facilitated negotiations between US and BD, BD media suggests it is India who facilitated. after negotiations failed, it's about timing of hasina's exit, our guys must have said wait till new govt settles down.

here we are.

this is all speculative, actual sequence of events we will know only a few years down the line.
======

India made clear to US that elections are Bangladesh’s ‘domestic matter’

I see it differently.

The Liberation of Bangladesh is undone. This should have been our red line.

India foretold the USA was just a rhetoric after all this.

The first lady is in India and Indian forces are in barracks.

Us wants a military base they say they want to counter China? A base in Bangladesh they can counter China ,India and Burma. Liberate Tibet?? Control the trade routes in Indian Ocean . A lot of advantages. And like Afghan war control the biggest HEROIN trade in the world.

America cannot be allowed a foothold in the region.

If nothing else, Bangladesh should be "kept in flux" so that no one can do anything useful.

saar.... Failure in basic duty such as protecting consulate - can never be due to neglect especially in country like US. Your statements hold true in some scenario .. but not in current chain of events.

coup attempts have been happening in BD since 1975, zia the founder of BNP was in power too for a few years till he was assassinated. if there was no red line then, where is this new red line coming from.

awami league came back to power using similar tactics against BNP.

our media at that time used to call it "battle of two begums".

for BD this is par for the course. if there are cracks in a society, they will be exploited, as simple as that.

GoI's stand has largely been the same, non-interference in BD's internal matters.
