Air India AI 171 Crash in Ahemdabad (31 Viewers)

To me so far it looks like a dual engine failure, this is supported by RAT deployment.

Had it been not a complete engine failure i.e. they were still getting much lower than expected thrust, then they would not have deployed RAT.

Flaps is what I struggling to explain, maybe they retracted it to reduce drag to clear the medical college complex. The probability of them taking off with wrong flap settings and experiencing dual engine failure too, is minuscule (almost an impossibility). The crash was inevitable once they took off and suffered dual engine failure, I think retracting flaps was a mistake as they lost whatever lift they had and maybe could have avoided the medical college.
Take off flaps have less drag than landing flaps and produce a good lift.

Retracting flaps would be the final nail on coffin coz it would sink immediately and can even stall.

How the surviver jumped off the plane ?
some news reports saying he got flung away as his seat was just adjacent to one of door and a window seat, he was found tied to his seat with seat belt
probably just bhagya playing a role in throwing him at some safe spot, what else...
but the guy also lost family members including brother(s) in same plane so it's equally unfortunate

the plane had electrical issues flying in from dilli . and again took off without fully fixed leading to malfunction of some sort. could this even be a possibility?

First of all OM SHANTI to people who are now with Almighty.

Must be due to intense heat also, machines that are not designed specially for Indian heat conditions have tough time.

Courtesy Kaveri performance is always measured in Indian Standard Condition.
Same 787 is operated by the GCC carriers where heat reaches almost 48* in peak mid day , Have you seen why Most flights of GCC depart either at midnight or early morning from their main base because operating them at mid day is pain ..

@johny_baba No idea what went wrong , But i think something might have gone wrong in hydraulics which could have shut the fuel to engines ..? .. I don't see there was FOD as the flight was just 20 seconds off the ground and videos don't show any smoke on engines to show a bird hit..

Any Air crash on take off is always deadly because of the maximum amount of fuel is in the tanks and when the aircraft crashes it creates an inferno from which neither the aircraft nor the souls inside can survive

Om shanti to all those souls who perished ..Even for someone like who

million dollar question. how did he survive the massive fireball on impact?
I think he was seated next to the door, when the impact happened most likely either the fuselage or the door broke off next to him and he along with his seat was thrown off outside the plane and safe from the fire and explosion.

Ultimately one in a million luck.

I express my heartfelt condolences to the grieving families. May God give them strength.

It was an incident that should not have happened. Its rare for both the engines to fail simultaneously.

I have a theory.
If 11A is the seat just at the juncture of wings and fuselage, it is the ideal place.
He was furthest away from cockpit frontal impact.
Also, the wings tear away in most of the crashes, and if that happened this time, then it would mean he(and probably his side passenger) was physically distant from the blast just enough. The blast is caused by the wings which contain fuel and the wings are the things which actually explode. So he and a few like him had the highest chance of survival. But having said that, it is still a miracle. The chances of survival are probably less that 0.1%.
