don't know about manga but i was kind of ok with anime's ending while most peope were'nt . they showed a much balanced ending ig. but those guys are planning different endings to AOT to satisfy larger audience , just hope it's all just rumours.
bhai there are reasons why serious fans of Shingeki no Kyojin // Attack on Titan are gigamad about whatever happened after the Marley arc
> Isayama spent 10 fuckin' years to build everything from ground up, only to wind it up in within 20-some chapters and that too by doing shear hypocritical deconstruction of core characters
^THOUGH i'd like to mention a fact as a reason behind why Isayama could've given upon it
-> during some time when Shinzo Abe was alive and kicking, his ministry enacted some laws that banned depictions of certain themes in media, involving movies manga anime and anything that's sold as entertainment; one of the theme or genre banned was "genocide" (depiction is ok under certain limits, glorification is not)
now this totally took all the steam away from AoT; even though Isayama had already decided how it would end, with Mikasa slaying Eren and all (as some foreseeing was depicted in both anime and manga) but he may have had grand plans about erecting a concrete past to the plot, but with those laws and restrictions, many of his producers started leaving him behind and pulled the plug of funding too, then many of creative minds in his team started leaving and all

he had to build a new team and even studio responsible for making anime got switched to Mappa...meanwhile he quickly wrapped up the manga side within 20-some chapters post the rumbling
this is also a big reason lots of anime and manga coming from japan nowadays totally sucks monkey ballz, as their govt is not allowing some themes in their media, those things that apparently made them unique to start with

- meanwhile dem Koreans don't have much restrictions like this except perhaps nudity part, so they are making success in dramas, manhwas and all nowadays
-> Isayama used to call Jean Kristen the horse faced rival of Eren as his favourite character; and later on he started calling Armin Arlert the meek genius (? doubtful, debatable) as his favourite character huh? he even requested his fans to vote Armin as popular character during many of popularity poles

many fans think it as his "self insert" move there, means Isayama is bringing his psyche in Armin's character and appropriating it all
you could've noticed it in post Marley arc when Armin started going haywire with everything
-> as for Anime vs Manga depictions of endings; YES, ANIME ENDING WAS FIXED A BIT, TO MAKE IT TOLERABLE TO FANS...dialogues were changed, some visuals were made more palpable to fans, and instead of Armin 'thanking' Eren to conducting a genocide for his friends, he sighed and replied to eren that he'll join him in hell in due time (means he felt responsible in enslaving Eren with his notion of 'freedom' whatever

though a valid point in some ways)
manga fans got shit on their face by Isayama in many ways, from degrading visuals that apparently was peaking at some point, to such a rushed and bullshit ending outright invalidating lots of things
OH AND FALCO "MIRACULOUSLY" GETTING WINGZZ AND ALL BIRD-JAW TITAN BAKCHODI WAS SUPER PLOT HOLE FOR SAKE OF PLOT CONVENIENCE...FUCK THAT SHIT

and Isayama kept saving Reiner from death by plot holes after plot holes but Falco takes the cake with this huh
I think the boat for an alternate ending sank a long time ago. From what I've read, they didn't do a 180 with the anime's ending and just stuck with the manga version. It would feel pretty strange for them to change that now, especially after all these years. That said, Evangelion did go through a full reboot, so maybe after a couple of decades, they could revisit it. Personally, though, I'm pretty numb about the whole thing and don’t expect much to come from it.
yes, anime only ending ship has sailed, but frankly anime did fix some of serious issues with last two-three chapters of the manga and made it a bit palpable
evangelion aah...another good anime, though manga and video games + visual novels (yes, there are plenty of them) are quite leaning towards otaku sides...
