it may seem oddball but, a mangaka literally made a manga on Kabaddi!

meet, Shakunetsu Kabaddi // Burning Kabaddi
it spanned 31 some volumes and ran for good nine years from 2015 to 2024

there's also anime adaptation upto some chapters, but since it came out during covid era, quality is average
Anime as well

manga recommendations apart from usual action-romcom etc genres, 'senior citizen' mangas

Gabai Grandma from Saga (or simply Gabai)

it's somewhat biographical story of a boy (author here) in post-ww2 japan being raised by his granny in a poor household, some heartwarming moments here and there

Mariko at 80 / Sanju Mariko

a story of some very senior author facing senior age issues, wishing to continue her literary works while facing family issues and others

Can someone explain to me wtf my coworker meant by this convo few days ago ?

Me ( at lunchtime) : what are you watching ?
Coworker : oh this anime i found...very interesting. Do you like anime ?
Me: i am not huge into anime but i do like some anime.Like i loved Samurai 7 and i consider Avatar The last airbender as the best anime of alltime and a must-watch for kids and adults.
Coworker : nice...but ATLA isnt anime. its just a cartoon animation series.
Me : anime is short for animation.....
coworker : yes, but no. Anyways, lets talk later ( goes back to watching video).
Me: :oops::twitch:

Anime is typically used to describe Japanese animation, while most American animated works are just called cartoons. Chinese animation, by the way, is known as donghua. The difference usually comes down to art style and character design, though a lot of Western shows - like Avatar: The Last Airbender; have blurred the lines by borrowing anime-inspired elements. So, technically your coworker’s right that ALTA isn’t an anime in the traditional sense, but it’s easy to see why you’d call it that, lol

Ok so anime is like champagne. Got it. It must come from a specific place to be anime, else its sparkling cartoons.
Thanks for the explanation, now it makes sense to me.

aeni - korean animation, same as above

The work can be outsourced to Korea or Vietnam or China and still be called anime. As long as art style is consistent, the source material is Japanese, Japanese writers, Japanese characterization, Original voice acting is in Japanese and done in Japan, Japanese production house, etc. But the same Korean studio can make an American show that looks like anime, but it can't be called anime. Bro, thanks for the link but i aint remotely interested in cartoon pussy. For one i am married, for two i am too old for that shit for three, i never was into porn that much even as a teenager in the west in the early days of pornternet.
Because i always saw porn as eating the chocolate without taking the wrapper off - you get a hint of taste but its mostly bullshit.

Also, dont watch porn. Because if you fuck a woman like they fuck in porn, she will sue you for assault and i will fund her case myself :)

*ahem* i get it all, i'm just teaching you stuff to distinguish between various oriental media forms so you don't get involved in stuff you don't like 🤓

Korra isnt just woke libbu shit. Its nonsense and completely breaks the lore AND perverts the ideology.

For one, Korra is the first kiddo avatar EVER to be able to bend as a toddler. This is NEVER THE CASE in avatar world, where you NEED to learn the skills and your avatar identity is only revealed when you are a teenager.
Otherwise, all i have to do, is find baby korra, lock her in a cage like Hama in ATLA and keep her alive and in chains. GG avatar.

For two, the first series, the ETHOS is hindu-buddhist. Where there is no good vs bad, there is good deeds and bad deeds and people are BOTH good and bad, with the spirit world manifesting it the most - bad behaviour makes spirits go bad, good behaviour makes them good.

But no, Korra had to go the christian route of good vs bad. Because raava vs vaatu = lord of light vs lord of darkness, aka ahura mazda vs ahariman, jesus vs satan etc etc.

Also breaks lore about origin of bending. In ATLA its various animals in the world, such as badger moles for earthbending, sky bison for air bending, etc - teaching us that we can also learn from animals.

But in Korra, all that is negated, bending comes from lion turtles who gave it to humans....WTF. So if humans got air-bending from lion turtle, why is Apa one of the original airbender masters ?!?

ATLA is not just a show, its a LIFE LESSON for kids and adults. I give it 15/10 in rating.
Korra is hot chrsitianic-woke garbage. I give it 3/10.
