Now that I've finally spent some time in India, I can speak about some things:
The Indian mentality needs some course correction. There's a lot of "chalta hai" and "Well this works and I know we need to change so somebody else should do this change." As corny as it sounds, you must "be the change you want to see in the world." There's many things that can change if just one person starts acting differently. Soon, others will eventually follow (they will ask why you do things different, you say why, they may not initially but they will eventually)
The Indian is extremely resilient. This is a very powerful force. However, for whatever reason, there's an unbelievable amount of fear. "Well we can't do XYZ because ABC is doing this and it's making it hard for us." Sure, everybody has problems. Indian people need to learn to leverage their resilience into doing things. Eg: Improving society, R&D, basically anything really. I've never encountered such a strong willed group of people. In fact it makes me proud to be Indian, but confused as I do not understand where the disconnect is.
There's too much poverty and greed. Both exist simultaneously. It's a strange phenomenon. I don't know. It's easy to find trusting people, but hard to find trustworthy people. I don't know how to make a society from the bottom up where people realize their roles and aren't just after money. Money does not solve problems, but I understand in India it gives the illusion of solving problems.
