It is less of the problem of transversing mountain passes, The problem here is in case of ATAGS firing, the soil in significant no. Of ( not all) areas in mountains is not strong enough to support the weight of atags let alone firing and atags digs into the soil or recoils back which can mess up with it's accuracy and a potential danger for the crew.
Now there are also areas with strong enough soil, but army also need the firepower and range in those areas where soil is more weaker.
So it's not the fault of atags, it's that in certain areas geography demands a lighter gun, so either go for another lighter gun with less range or make atags more lighter( along with some other jugaad to make it better sit down on the soil) while still enjoying the firepower and range.
Are we manufacturing new reason that an product is not suitable even though it passed all the trials being conducted by the same Armed forces?
The entire ATAGS is overweight is funny to see. Does an customer does not check the basic specs first before dragging them from Chennai to Leh, Jaisalmer to Tawang for firing trials. Because this news came after it completed trials in Coastal areas and in desert.
An common man can check the brochure spec but somehow IA cannot able to check them.
Secondly if an product failed an min criteria then it should be called an Failed. But somehow the scenario occured is
1. Coastal Trial - Success
2. Desert - Success
3. Leh, Sikkim, Tawang - Success
Then how it failed certain X condition suddenly. Does Army completely forgot to think about this X condition?
Now how are they sure that Israeli gun can pass it when no such trials conducted?
None of the story never make sense except Import Genrols wants to have paycheck for lobbying. Same with Stryker, no trial conducted but MOD babus ready to spread their asscheeks for foreign powers to gain measly advantage, we are ready to screw an indigenous platform called Whap from Tata/Mahindra.
The modus operandi is going on for decades by this two branches Army and IAF where talking about acquiring star wars tech but ends up putting avionics in an 50 year old MiG-21.
IAF chief anguish was laughable when they can easily induct Tejas in IOC standard in last decade itself, instead delayed enough now GE is taking its time to restart things. Even Pakistan comes with JF-17 in Block 1 which is extremely limited but still better for them since they have numbers to fight.
End point if an Product is passed Army trials and still Army claim they are issues which seems to critical then questions needs to be asked against Army regarding their trials where they can't find anything.
