That's why drdo is working on atags lighters brother altags. Under 15tons. Sense should prevail they are not gonna be allowed to buy Israeli athos in any way by drdo. Atags range would be much more in those High altitude mountains it gives quite a big advantage. Instead of big numbers of altags they should procure atags. I don't think 3 tons would make any difference.
Classic case first set requirements of all electric drive train and big chamber for longer range. product gets ready with all requirements fullfilled change the requirements undermine all previous requirements which were genuine and made atags a state of the art product. Now to bring altags under 15tons they will have to reduce chamber size,might remove electric drive train.

Yes after decrease in chamber size even range will get affected
Heard they are going to use 23l
Now army will cry that ATAL doesn't have enough range

People who have good connections and sources know who will win altgs competition

That chamber size is what makes it atags, the world record holder for longest range 155mm artillary gun with conventional shell.

u think after altags surpasses athos in trials even then ia will induct athos ? Drdo has powers without there signature ia cannot buy any foreign mall.

Repeat orders will pick up the pace. Bear in mind that pre-2014, We were down to just 200 cannibalised FH-77 Bofors.

Only 24 Dhanush guns have been inducted till now.

Some other pending guns:
155mm MGS - 814
105mm MGS - 200
TGS - 400 + 800
Vajtra-T 3rd Batch - 100

it's high time they revive Bhim SPH project, this time with Kalyani's Bharat-52 or ATAGS / MGS gun on a chassey
next orders for any SPH tracked artillery should go to indigeneous platform and not to those korean ones

Much better to just further indigenise and modernize the k9 vajra.
We already import relatively low components directly from korea now, most of the korean components are either indigenised under tot or replaced by Indian origin systems developed with the help of drdo.
The only major imports are the engine from Germany and transmission from USA.

In terms of parts by value, cost and weight k9 vajra is as indigenous as LCA tejasMK1A( initial versions with israeli aesa).
The only difference being symbolic "origin".

Granted, but main differentiator again is the main gun put on turret of K9, that CN98 made by Hyundai, not sure if we got ToT for that thing here for some ~100 some number of order

If we want to pave a way for future orders of ATAGS / MGS / TGS whatever in 155mm/52 cal range i think it's better to standardise on single gun design of indigeneous origin and with a revived Bhim SPH project with local engine = DATRAN derated fork, and ATAGS / Bharat-52 gun; will be helpful in pressurising muh genrolzz who're salivating a lot for ATHOS like coyotes

Once the local line by L&T completes remaining orders of K9 Vajra it can be shifted to this new-Bhim SPH derivative; baki toh, it's also question of 'why not'
