Anons, answer me, why can't we have an Air Force variant of TEDBF i.e ORCA powered by twin RD-33 engines ?

TEDBF Project for now is not even get any funds. There seems to be Preliminary study and Navy is interested. But to get funding, Navy is trying to convince IAF to use the platform for Air Force Variant which is ORCA. Basically, they need to show sufficient requirement numbers to get funding from GOI.

Till now

1. IAF wants 114 MRFA (Rafale)
2. Navy for now fixed the Air wing by ordering 26 Naval Rafale for Vikrant. So far there is no sight for next AC.
3. After MRFA, MWF IAF will going to 5th Gen platform in the form of AMCA. Now the ORCA timeline does not make sense for them.
4. Similarly based on the timeline Navy themselves may think about an 5th Gen Naval Fighter.

Unfortunately the proposed design got stuck in an situation where we are trying to transition to 5th Gen platforms.

Also even the baseline Kaveri can be used for this project which uses the existing CMSX2 Alloy. We already have 3rd Gen Alloy in the form of DMS4 alloy which gives you even better performance number.

Depends on how good the afterburner section that Brahmos Corporation is building. Dry thrust is around 54KN and if they get the afterburner good enough we can see solid 80KN Wet thrust. Since TEDBF is twin engine fighter so problem.

UN Import Marshalls are set on more Rafale.

This is what a TEDBF would look like

Ignoring my usual rants about dalali by the Import Marshalls, logical arguments against them going for Orca is

>This will be a development and production project, will take much longer than Rafale and will have a lot of bugs and other niggles
>Assume optimistically delivery and induction is 10 years from today, by that time you will see 5th gen and above stealth planes being the mainstay in our adversary's fleet
>We have a something called AMCA, development wagera of this would take away both time and funding from that.

imo Admirals must also junk this plan for TEDBF and opt for a Naval AMCA, which would be larger and have capability for external hardpoints aside from the internal bay

Then maybe you havent seen the latest progress shared by shirobarks and shreedhar singh, the alloys progress is good, tbc coating has been developed, cooling holes improved, blisks made for kde, new distortion tolerant inlet fans for kde, single crystal alloys would be used
Lots of weight reduction measures underway, metal bypass duct would be replaced by polymer matric composite duct, maybe but not sure
Still it will take atleast a decade for Kaveri to enter series production even if we start serious funding today

Not a popular opinion but if IAF is not willing to take ORCA based on TEDBF and IN is also thinking about 5th gen plane, it's better to develop a deck based 5th gen plane given that money is actually released for it right this year to compensate for time loss. Ideally, we should have 4+ and a 5th gen deck based fighters combo for aircraft carriers.
