Anons, answer me, why can't we have an Air Force variant of TEDBF i.e ORCA powered by twin RD-33 engines ?
TEDBF Project for now is not even get any funds. There seems to be Preliminary study and Navy is interested. But to get funding, Navy is trying to convince IAF to use the platform for Air Force Variant which is ORCA. Basically, they need to show sufficient requirement numbers to get funding from GOI.
Till now
1. IAF wants 114 MRFA (Rafale)
2. Navy for now fixed the Air wing by ordering 26 Naval Rafale for Vikrant. So far there is no sight for next AC.
3. After MRFA, MWF IAF will going to 5th Gen platform in the form of AMCA. Now the ORCA timeline does not make sense for them.
4. Similarly based on the timeline Navy themselves may think about an 5th Gen Naval Fighter.
Unfortunately the proposed design got stuck in an situation where we are trying to transition to 5th Gen platforms.
Also even the baseline Kaveri can be used for this project which uses the existing CMSX2 Alloy. We already have 3rd Gen Alloy in the form of DMS4 alloy which gives you even better performance number.
Depends on how good the afterburner section that
