I remember that when DRDO tested its HSTDV ( hypersonic tech demo vehicle) in Sept/ 2020, they said it would it take up to 5 years to test an actual missile to a full, or at least long range. They seem to have done it in the projected time!

It's more like a quasi-ballistic missile but with more maneuverability and lesser speed.

All the media headlines are reporting India testing a hypersonic missile. It wouldn't look good now, if a clarification were to be made, that it is not hypersonic, but ballistic or supersonic.

Not really; everything's pretty much hypersonic as they go ballistic. Even V-2 rockets from 1945 were hypersonic in that regard.

In modern terminology hypersonic means hypersonic with extremely high level of maneuverability; comparable to a cruise missile.

All BMs are hypersonic in terminal phase . The question is what's the utility or nomenclature of this missile ? Is it a derivative of the Shaurya with extended range coz that's what it looks like from here ?

If yes this is the missing piece of the puzzle I've been ranting about - the need for a conventionally armed BM with ranges between 1500 -3500 kms to target the Chinese hinterland .

Hopefully they certify & mass produce this ASAP & unlike the Shaurya don't place this one under the SFC but the newly created Rocket Force.

Many are stating that it's a hgv mounted on existing booster maybe k4 and it's 3rd test too
So high chances exist of being hgv and we all know when the first hgv was tested

Will this be the equivalent of Zircon?

Zircon has a sustained speed of 5 Mach + and is designed for both land based and anti ship missions.
I wonder if our missle too can achieve these speeds throughout or only at the terminal phase.
