The story goes like this. Apparently when the ATAGS was announced by the MoD , it was a collaborative effort by DRDO & the development cum production partners ( Tata Power & Bharat Forge ) only. The IA didn't have any role to play in it. Why? I've no clue.

Cut to the trials & the release of the PSQRs where the IA specified the weight & certain other modifications which is being carried out & trialed & on & on as we speak.

I & a few others had a huge argument with the guy who came up with this story on another forum . Tried looking online but there was nothing to corroborate his version. Subsequently Indranil , Rohit Vats & other BRF guys on Twitter released information which basically corroborated that guy's version.

So long story short , DRDO & DCPP commence a project sanctioned by the MoD with literally zero participation by the IA. As the project nears successful completion , the IA gets into the act & comes up with its requirements which though seemingly inferior to what the DRDO has come up with , will prevail as it should & must for they are the users.

Currently that's where we are w.r.t the ATAGS / TGS saga. If it reminds you a bit of the early days of the LCA , HTT-40 & other such aviation programs before Manohar Parrikar drilled sense into the IAF & brought them on board to take ownership of such projects , you aren't mistaken.

Story of how we run our defence programs by & large though it seems to be coming to an end now which I see as a huge tragedy for it robs us of much needed entertainment , what with the IN which was always a forward looking service fully attuned to local vendors - their strengths & weaknesses & how to graduate their programs technology wise , to the IAF which came on board during MP's tenure to the IA which is gradually coming on board if it's already not on boarded w.r.t the many ongoing developmental programs pertaining to the IA .

Infact if goi lift all restrictions and conditions to prevent import and stop promoting indigenization u will see the amount of contracts flowing for artillery guns and rapid modernization of our artillery segment
 
At this point I genuinely feel like people have put more effort discussing LR-AShM than what DRDO guys might have put in actually making one.

People getting absolutely frustrated seeing India wasting their aid money on these weapons. And then people finding those people and wasting time & energy in arguing with each of them. Someone continuously putting thread after thread on how it's inferior to PLA tech while other doing same to justify how it's a game changer. Pakistani analyst sh*tting bricks on how it'll completely change the balance of power in the whole region and Indian analyst announcing how we'll now claim back all the China occupation territories. Someone explaining in detail how hypersonic cruise missile works, what's MaRV on Agni-2 and someone getting offended why he didn't proclaim it to be the most groundbreaking hypersonic weapon technology.

And on the other hand those absolute Chads at DRDO one day decided to simply slap together a K4 booster with a Shaurya motor and top it up with a BrahMos front end to make one of a kind missile to be ever made. Those guys were so chilled out that didn't even bother adding a x-shaped scoring on the rupture disc that helps in...well rupturing.

So now I'd say we should just move on; "aur bhi dukh hain zamane mein IOR ke siwa, Rahatein aur bhi hain LR-AShM ki raahat ke siwa"

And if someone is really amped up then go to the DDP website and submit his/her idea of something under Make-II (suo moto) and make yourself actually useful to this country.

It is hilarious that there is absolutely zero coordination within gormint for important defense projects.
Cherry on top is delay caused by confusion results in gormint and military being accused of dalali by people on the net. Complete free for all. 😂😂

You need three components in any military attack to guarantee its success
Element of surprise, Speed of attack and Volume of attack

We also try to follow this as much as possible...but somehow we just end up using the first step on ourselves only rather than the adversary.
 
At INR 12 crore a piece 30 regiments(30 * 18 = 540 guns) of MArg 155x39 truck mounted howitzers will cost just 6480 crore rupees. A huge amount of all terrian mobile firepower.

For instance... IA is getting 6 Apaches for 930 million dollars... i.e. 7500 crore rupees.

Hum IA gernails ka samman karte hain... hum aagey bhi IA gernails ka samman karte rahenge.
