Not really, lot of stuff we can buy from US. Even we can take those things from US, which doesn't want to share. It will not kill our industry. It is really unfortunate for Indigenous Products...but I think Modi GOVT. had no other way to protect itself from heavy Tariffs..as India enjoys a huge Trade surplus with USA ( percentage of trade wise)....just hoping India will be wise enough to not get involved into critical systems like FIGHTER JETS ,( F35/F21/F15).
In some far planet, revolving around Alpha Centauri-A Indian MIC had shown the spine and intellect to collaborate with Antonov. In this deal Antonov (Ukr) got a good cash injection resulting in them rebuilding after a war and in return India got Antonov (In) whose primary job was to "train the trainer" for R&D and transfer IPRs to local industries.
Because of this collaboration, in current times India has not just managed to bridge the technological gap in fields like engine core and large aircrafts, but also is a global contractor.
Yeeaaahh...kind of; end of the day it's just an unpressurized tube with few engines jerry rigged around it.They are way easier to build compared to fighter jets. They don't have to pull high Gs or have to be fitted with most advanced technology.
As for this, I'd like to disagree. The numbers required were not large enough till now to justify r&d expenses.
Your opinion is good, but do you think India is in that kind of a strong situation geopolitically to negotiate with US on India's own terms? To be honest, I don't think so...you have to accept the reality & act to get maximum benefit by proper utilisation of the situation.... TOP NOTCH TECHNOLOGIES like 6TH GEN TECHS, AERO ENGINE TECH, NUCLEAR TECHS, NEXT GEN ELECTRONICS & AVIONICS TECH etc. are NOT AVAILABLE TO US WITHOUT COMPROMISING HEAVILY to USA , only MONEY CAN'T BUY THOSE TO INDIA....How much We speak that World is MULTI-POLAR now, but the TRUTH is WORLD IS GETTING BIPOLAR DAY-BY-DAY with USA in one side & CHINA on the other ....and INDIA can't remain neutral this time Like the COLD-WAR time...yet WE HAVE TO KEEP IT IN MIND THAT IN FUTURE INDIA WILL BE ONE OF THE TOP TWO SUPER-POWERS, hence USA will automatically become a Rival for INDIA....so, we must act accordingly. Not really, lot of stuff we can buy from US. Even we can take those things from US, which doesn't want to share. It will not kill our industry.
It's like hafta we hv to give to them. So why can't buy top notch tech from them.
RTA has been pending since mid 2000s IIRC whereas 3 cos of China - Xi'an , AVIC & COMAC have been developing airliners & their analogues in military transporters since the mid 80s as far as COMAC goes in their collaboration with McDonnell Douglas which was greatly responsible for their 90 seater ARJ-21 / COMAC 909.India doesn't really need foreign collaboration to build transport jets. They are way easier to build compared to fighter jets. They don't have to pull high Gs or have to be fitted with most advanced technology.
Engines can be bought directly.
The numbers required were not large enough till now to justify r&d expenses.
But it will become so by the next decade.
Sooner rather than later transport jet plan will emerge.
