BTW regarding engines for UAVs, IMO we can adapt KTM engines which Is owned by Bajaj Auto as they are lightweight and powerful too

true but hdw and now scorpene is talent trained going to be drained. India simply should churn Arihant diesel electric copies if it has too to keep train chugging or atleast combine scorpene and Arihant learnings. I ma sad to say what one chinese member wrote about Russians working with HAL for Sukhoi assembly vs China and AIM 's uttering over Brahmos Corps inability to absorb engine tech for more than decade tells us - malaise is not just in Armed forces but also the way the mandate has been to our defence PSU. Last Brave step taken by our OFB was to reverse engineer FN FL. And something happened which made our PSU loose risk taking ability and zeal to learn everything about what they build and enthu to go ahead to start creating inhouse without needing authorization from above replacements for parts which are being imported on the sly - so that next time you are4 blackmailed - you just show your thumb at them.

The 110/120kn engine JV deal will be a similar repeat I fear. If we really want a JV, might try with Rolls Royce. Although I'm not confident on RR either. The Chinese way is the way to go, but Indians being Indians won't risk a massive investment without a guarantee of success. This "being smart" attitude is really working against us here. The AL-31FP engines have 2000 hours of MTBO, 500 hours for the thrust vectoring nozzles. Why are we going forward with the attitude that our first indigenous turbofan in service HAS to have 4000 hours of MTBO. Even if Kaveri has 2000 hours of MTBO at ideal thrust, use it and go forward from there. I bet the AL-31 has already been reverse engineered, use it and go forward from there. Make a drone big enough to use the Kaveri with the afterburner and validate it's reliability; and address issues from there.
