In the 80s there used to be a few companies involved in the manufacturing of electronics components like ECIL,BEL,CDIL and other small private companies. CONG(I) which ruled the country for many years had no idea about setting up of large scale semiconductor industry. Due to India ,being close to USSR ,USA and Europe had seen to it that India doesn't access to Semiconductor technology. Though Semi conductor complex(SCL) ,Chandigarh was established in the 80s and 90s, it was sabotaged by PAK ISI and US CIA and got destroyed in a devastating fire. Subsequent state govt and central Govt had no idea about electronics industry. our Govt woke up after seeing China rise like a phoenix during Deng Xiao ping. Still the Govt didnt realize the importance of local manufacturing of electronic components. US companies like INTEL ,Faichild, Motorola established IC fab facilities in Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand ,Europe and USA and never in India. France and Germany had their own semiconductor giants like Thomson CSF,AEG Telefunken etc... USSR also had their own industry. our ppl only minted money by selling real estate plots with names like silicon valley, fabcity etc ...fooling the common public. What do we do with software when we don't have required indigenous hardware for running AI and ML algorithms? Everything is imported. All shops in Hyderabad, Mumbai etc sell Chinese components with no data sheets, source details etc... Chinese startups are investing advanced semiconductor, Rocket Engine, quantum computing technologies, where as our startups are investing in food processing, hospitality etc and nobody is investing in establishment of semiconductor foundries.
