It is underway trials technically, the engine will be put on the FTB in September though (for now). The same person reported this as well btw. The interesting thing to note from the two pieces is : "25 hours of testing left" and paraphrasing "some changes were made in the engine". I can't draw the conclusions because I lack the technical knowledge.

Japa were progressing pretty nicely with their own jet engine program until, they were told ( threatened) by unkill to stop it

Japan + UK had very similar requirements for a new fighter. It made sense to join forces. Japan expected to spend 40 billion USD on its F3 programme. Why duplicate cost if another country was pursuing a similar objective? 100 F3 were expected to be ordered initially. UK, Italy perhaps 200 Tempest. Massive saving on dev costs and economies of scale on production from a joint UK, Japan, Italy programme, enabling Japan to order far more than 100 fighters.

You engineering major is CS, as far a I can remember.
Wouldn't reading about Gas turbine be counter productive and redundant utilization of your college time?

electrical is my branch but i am also a part of software engineer factory due to situation, rn i have 1.5 months break still left so thought to read about gas turbines a bit more

to grasp basics you may refer to books pertaining to thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer

a dedicated subject of Gas Turbine Aero-Thermodynamics may have their own set of specialised books for topics

i remember we had a giant ass 1600 some page wali Engineering Thermodynamics book with a jet engine cutout on its cover when i did my enginiggering, but only some elementary chapters were picked from it for our common Engg Thermodynamics subject in first year of unified studies, but it might not be sufficient for thorough studies I think
