No one can decimate afghanistan. Because Afghanistan is highly non-urbanized, its like 75% population lives in rural villages, the region is a mess of mountains and valleys and plateaus and deserts, which makes it also very very hard to bomb the shit out of effectively from air.
Which means boots on ground which means you die coz afghanistan is not where you survive by putting boots on the ground - either you die flat out like the brits or you bleed too much like yankees and rus and piss off.
