i initially decided to avoid responding to this, because well, the kid was already on last breaths and its parents only wanted good for him, i think nothing wrong was done here because kid was irredeemable, unfortunately, if this practice leads him to (whatever notion of) 'mukti' (they jainis follow), who are we to judge
BUT, having said that, i think people need to understand some nuanced differences between SHARMAN (or Brahminical) vs SHRAMAN thing before commenting on Hindu vs Jaini // Buddhist things,
and believe me, the other sides = jainis and 'specially buddhists are more aware about this difference than most hindus,
so what's Sharman vs Shraman thing?
there is a legit dichotomy called "Sharman vs Shraman" when it comes to dharmic things,
Sharman = Brahminical
Shraman = Jain/Buddhist
and from a learnt person we casually-jokingly call "udupi unkil" on teligram side, i've learnt that, BOTH SHARMANIC AND SHRAMANIC PATHS HAVE DIFFERENT PATHWAYS TOWARDS ATTAINING MUKTI - LIBERATION,
Sharmanic pathway starts from bottom-to-top in Kundalini, means muladhara chakra to sahasrara chakra,
Shramanic pathway is reverse,
but how come 'mukti' liberation differs here ?
Sharmanic mukti means fulfilling the life by doing purushartha (dharma-artha-kama-moksha) , balancing karma and eventually reaching that state where an aatman doesn't have an purposeful attachment left towards samsara so it can just be free
Shramanic mukti, on the other hand, is nihilistic mukti

, you may still do purushartha but their pathway is like being so numb in senses by deliberate 'strangling' of things like desires and all that aatman has no attachment left in samsara so it can eventually 'detach', you know
and sadly, in modern day, a hell of people have been made to believe that mukti is pathway towards nihilism
to know more, ask any true dharmic yogi or guru about it
*note - those 'shamanic' things have little to do with this dichotomies here so don't get confused over similarity in words

So coming to that kid's suffering and all, you can perhaps see it better way now why it happened...
