Indian Navy Developments & Discussions

Additional books are there showing the chronology from 2000 to 2021 of IN

I guess all these books are a comprehensive chronology of everything IN including indigenous ship building, war history, operations undertaken etc including the GM Hiranandani trilogy

Below two books are in modern e-book PDF format, it's not scanned from physical books

Found this infographic in the above book, God willing by the time P18 comes out we will be at 90% indigenization considering the new LRMFR and Kusha missiles should be integrated.
We hear these indigenous % all the time, but no one ever mentions if this is by # of components or on the cost of the ship itself. Anyone have any idea?

The remaining 10% would be engine, won't it?

By the time p18 enters service, everything except engine will be indigenous.
Just like fighters jets, we will still depend on foreign naval engines.

Engines will be our archellies heel.

All percentage numbers you see here or in any other context are based on cost of components.

Number of components will be too complex since every nut bolt and rivet is also component that way, and subsystems like radar are made of smaller parts themselves.

In a warship or even aircraft the most expensive and high tech bits are the engines, radars(s) and missiles/weapons.

it's an apple versus orange comparison.
in one hand the cost of 3 delivered subs,
in the other the sole R&D estimated costs (estimated because holding a budget is not an indian specialty, specially with new technologies as small reactor and first SSN class).

At the end, no one forced India to ink the Scorpene deal... it's a little bit tiring.
No need for a new SSN class. We could probably get a Arihant-class based SSN for less than the new Scorpene? What is the advantage of ordering a Scorpene vs an Arihant with the SLBMs removed?

Arihant will be relatively lot more louder compared to Scopene.
And you will need redesign, which will cost extra money and time,
it's not as easy as just removing ballistic missile tubes

This is my favorite aspect of the Navy. Their gradual approach to improvement made them superior to their Indian counterparts. While they also faced challenges with submarines and naval aviation, they excelled in areas where they could have done better.
