Is the $500 million cost floating around for NGC real?

There's no comparison to be done here. NGC is larger than them all.. It matches the Tughril class frigates in 8AShM & 16SAMs, and outmatches it by a long shot in size being 5000ton class.

Compare with NGMV I suppose, or if we'd armed our Naval OPVs you could.

I could only find the following updates on P 17B. It seems that an RFI on P 17B could be issued this year (2025) followed by the RFP in 2026 and a contract in late 2027.

I made a table earlier showing projected inductions of vessels into the Indian Navy in the coming years (+ 1-2 years).

It would be good if you could convert this into sort of a gant chart with years being the X axis so it’s a bit clearer where the gaps in production/deliveries will be,

do we know numbers for 17B though? You think 5? I thought 7-8?

Also surely L&T has to be factored in, they are already subcontracted for FSS. Hopefully they get larger warships to work on too

He has also mentioned 7-8 P-17 Bravos in the table, that's the standard guess people have but you never know with the way our forces are budgetarily-challenged..

Unlikely L&T will be allowed to build big warships soon, Navy has been burnt by Pipavav Shipyard saga so they will go step-by-step, most likely they should get some of the NGC but pata nahi.

I mean they even go by the same procedure for DPSU shipyards except MDL, rest all have started with OPV, Corvette, Frigate, except CSL which got the INS Vikrant order because other shipyards were too small, but even they are getting the Corvette orders today.


I'd support moving Frigate/Destroyer production away from GRSE though since the demographics around it are very Green, you never know when an irate mob may tactically attack the shipyard

L&T is already building large ships. the multi role vessels exceed 3000 tonnes.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday (September 3, 2024) accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN), the preliminary step on the long procurement process, for 10 capital acquisition proposals amounting to ₹1,44,716 crore. Doesn't look like a midget submarine at all, website says length of the sub is 54meter ,54 meter is also the length of type 209-1200 submarine most proliferated version of type 209, though the diameter of this hull is less then type 209-1200, still this submarine will end up displacing around 900-1100 ton submerged. Little tweaks here and there and design will end up swelling well over our type 209-1500 submarines.

Little tweaks here and there and design will end up swelling well over our type 209-1500 submarines.

Wouldn't be surprised if they end up offering this to pump up the numbers with a few adjustments to make it a bigger "full size" sub.

P75I would possibly get torpedoed with the additional 3 Scorpenes deal, so these and P76 could make up the difference.

Size if off BTW, the mast will be larger
