Official press Release: Prime Minister's Office

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir on 6th June. In line with his commitment to boost rail infrastructure and connectivity in the region, Prime Minister will inaugurate the Chenab bridge and visit the bridge deck at around 11 AM. Thereafter, he will visit and inaugurate the Anji bridge. He will flag off Vande Bharat Trains at around 12 noon. Thereafter, he will lay the foundation stone, inaugurate and dedicate to the nation multiple development projects worth over Rs 46,000 crore at Katra.

Chenab and Anji rail bridges

The architectural marvel Chenab Rail Bridge, situated at a height of 359 meters above the river, is the world's highest railway arch bridge. It is a 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge engineered to withstand seismic and wind conditions. A key impact of the bridge will be in enhancing connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. Through Vande Bharat train moving on the bridge, it will take just about 3 hours to travel between Katra and Srinagar, reducing existing travel time by 2-3 hours.

The Anji Bridge is India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge that will serve the nation in a challenging terrain.

Connectivity projects and other development initiatives

Prime Minister will also dedicate Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project to the nation. The 272 km long USBRL project, constructed worth around Rs 43,780 crore includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country aiming to transform regional mobility and driving socio-economic integration.

Prime Minister will also flag off two Vande Bharat Express trains from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar and back. They will offer a swift, comfortable, and reliable travel option for residents, tourists, pilgrims among others.

In a major boost to last mile connectivity especially in border areas, Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate various road projects. He will lay the foundation stone of road widening project from Rafiabad to Kupwara on National Highway-701 and the construction of Shopian bypass road on NH-444 worth over Rs 1,952 crore. He will also inaugurate two flyover projects at Sangrama Junction on National Highway-1 in Srinagar and at Bemina Junction on National Highway-44. These projects will ease traffic congestion and enhance traffic flow for the commuters.

Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Katra worth over Rs 350 crore. It will be the first medical college in Reasi district contributing substantially to the healthcare infrastructure in the region.

I can tell you on authority these numbers are undercounted for nearly 2 decades ago Mid Day a newspaper covering Mumbai mostly had such a tracker tracking railway accidents in Mumbai suburban railway daily.

The annual figure even then was some 3000 in a year & even then there were plenty of reports & anecdotal evidence it was undercounted.

2 decades later it still is 3000 a year whereas the population size in MMR must have gone up by a third if not more.

For some reason Mumbai Locals are handled by the central government, so all the procurement of AC locals, upgradation of tracks is announced by the centre.

I don't get this arrangement no way a central government minister sitting in Delhi will know about the requirements and pain points about a suburban rail in Mumbai, Why wasn't there a push to give the Mumbai locals to a body like MMRDA (just an example). Decentralizing this would help in better planning and the ministers in charge actually knowing about Mumbai's problems.

Mumbai metro is frankly useless so far in actually solving the overcrowding problems because people treat it as a secondary mode of transport.

The place they live -> take locals -> exit at a metro station -> take the metro station -> reach office. So the overall crowd hasn't lessened at all and stations like Ghatkoper which have metro stations have become unbelievably crowded.

Take Thane metro for example it isn't even connected with the existing Thane station and is a totally separate line I can say with some confidence that the railway station will still be as heavily used and as heavily crowded as after the metro comes up and is fully running

Mumbai local isnt full central govt business.. full stop

Mumbai local is jv between state govt and central govt/ indian railways through its divisions
Mumbai local would have got 100s of ac rakes if it were 100% centra govt thing

You should read about how procurements for local is done. Also read about the structure and history of mutp

As for metro not connected to locals, its a well known fact in mumbai and suburbs that auto mafia is very powerful, rest you all are smart enough
