offtopic but, I'm personally believer of thing called "jinxing" = bol bachchan kar ke baat bigad dena,
personally have seen many things that I or someone around me saying will happen, simply not happening or happening in difficult ways...

abhi toh yeh L1 hui hai, aur itna confidence dikha rhe hai media log...i seriously hope it doesn't get stuck somewhere...

just my little bit of schizo paranoia making me vent out

just observe this kalashnikov carefully
> riveted construction of receiver, even usual bolt carrier rails are affixed by rivets, unlike most AKMs where they are spot welded
> that curved extension of receiver at trigger side, most standard AKMs don't have this much extension there
= overall it's INSAS pattern receiver and not exactly AKM pattern one
> THAT DISTINCT SLOTTED HEAD BOLT SHAPED BUTTON AT REAR IRON SIGHT MOUNT, MEANT FOR MANUAL BOLT HOLD OPEN LIKE ONE'S THERE ON RIGHT SIDE OF INSAS

No doubt, this rifle here is MRF-91 made by various OFBs back in late 90s-early 2000s, and i've only seen it appearing three times across vast amount of gun pics and vids i've seen so far,
-first two times, in sandeep unnithan's videos on visits to various OFB's rifle rooms

-and third time, some J&K side pic where a personnel was carrying a butt-less version of it, i made an extensive post on it at good ol' D F I explaining how MRF-91 is predecessor of current Ghaatak assault rifle

most likely, this is same AK copy that made Mikhail Kalashnikov himself seethe a lot when he came here to visit some exhibition and all, and it's definitely just INSAS fork in kalashnikov shape

with this pic, it's my fourth time seeing this rare bird, and it seems it indeed is in some limited service across various CAPFs if not the Army itself hhmm

oh and of course, in old era OFB website it was probably listed as "Rifle, 7.62mm, Assault" with a matchbox sized pic lol

Also, wasn’t AK-7 the Rifle Kalashnikov was enraged by at Defexpo 2004?

Thanks for the info. Isn't this lower handguard from East German MPI KMS 72 ?
3843419.JPG
yeah possible, after all successor version muh Ghaatak has got that dotted pattern of buttstock copied straight from MPi KM 72 (fixed stock version)
although our guys in erstwhile OFB made furniture on MRF-91 using wood and they rather crudely etched this pattern of grip on its handguards 🤷‍♂️ - but it's possible some version of MRF-91 might have gotten polymer furniture there - I have a plausible pic showing it somewhere in my pc but i can't say with confidence that it's desi MRF-91 as rifles in that pic doesn't seem to have that manual bolt hold open device there, IF it's desi AK then it could be some intermediatery version between MRF-91 and current Ghaatak or something in that line

possible too, who knows exactly, and we lack sources about that incident than some media articles

as far as kunal dada's testment goes, AK-7 was some copy of very early variant of Arsenal AR or AR-M1 fixed stock milled receiver AK, so it could have been predecessor of current Trichy rifle
