yes, it has to be or else it's retardation to not utilise magazines from INSAS (and by long extension those FAB styled windowed mags from FAB upgraded INSASes) on this Carbine

besides this isn't a special magazine custom made for the carbine, it's last iteration of non translucent INSAS pattern magazine from very last variants of INSAS Excaliber that was proudly showcased by OFB successor and pics were shared on SM, even Kunal dada shown that recent INSAS Excaliber prototype somewhere on good ol' D F I

so yes, INSAS pattern magazine only, means old 20-rounder 1B and 30-rounder LMG mags can easily go on this Carbine, or vice versa

this means if armed forces continue to use INSASes in any form, be it regular 1B pattern or with FAB upgrades, they have a chance to standardise on newer pattern magazines with potential induction of lakhs of these carbines as they can "retire" older magazines

So ultimately INSAS MK2 is what the Indian Army got in the form of CQB Carbine. :pmegusta:

Looks like Army and OFB finally were able to get their 'dream INSAS variant'. Personally. i am all for a Sig 553 clone with FN FNC features made by a private company with excellent quality control.

This is from 2015. How times have changed and for the best 😀

Arun Sahgal, director of The Forum for Strategic Initiative and a retired Army brigadier, said the Excalibur rifle could be pushed on the Indian Army. "As per inputs, this rifle does not meet critical standards but is being pushed by the Infantry Directorate and the hierarchy to cover up the mess they created in producing shoddy QR and an over-ambitious request for proposals."

On the testing of the homemade rifle, Sahgal said, " It appears that Army and OFB are on the same page as far as Excalibur is concerned, but testing agencies such as the Directorate General of Quality Assurance and other certifying agencies are resisting introduction of a sub-standard rifle. There is every likelihood of re-tendering with improved and more down-to-earth QRs, which I am told are being finalized."

With all the inputs from @johny_baba regarding the CQB Carbine and it's ability to use INSAS magazines and 5.56x45mm rounds, it begets the question if the platform can be modified for use by Ghatak and RR units.

So we need to change this :

Some ideas on how this can be accomplished :

  • Suppressor/ Silencer
There are atleast two options here, one made by ARDE and another one made by SAI (Danish company)
The SAI INSAS sound suppressor is a tough and durable sound suppressor designed and made for the INSAS assault rifle. Intended to be used in extreme conditions in all climate zones. Fit to rifle without altering or changing any part. Can be equally used for rifle, carbine and light support weapon. The suppressor includes the SAI designed mechanically back pressure reduction valve, preventing excess soiling and reducing disturbance to operator.

The ARDE option for the JVPC could probably be fitted onto the CQB Carbine as well.

  • Picatinny Rail Stock Adaptor
Picatinny Stock Adapter gives the user the ability to mount a 1913 Picatinny interface stock/stabilizer assembly where normally the receiver extension is attached.

  • Holographic/ Magnifier Combo (w/ Flashlight)
  • MEPRO MOR
The MEPRO MOR PRO is a multi-purpose all-in-one Mil-Spec red dot reflex sight/IR/Visible pointer in a single unit with multiple power sources. Fiber Optic technology that gathers surrounding light during daytime with a tritium capsule which illuminates the reticle in the dark 24/7 for 10 years, 3 LED brightness level, powered by one or two AA batteries, for Extra Bright modes in extreme light conditions and red or green visible and IR pointers, all in one compact and waterproof, rugged sight.
  • MEPRO MMX3
The Mepro MMX3 and micro magnifiers are compact, lightweight magnifiers that will extend your effective range of your red dot or 1x reflex sight. The Mepro MMX3 and micro magnifiers attach to any MIL-STD-1913 rail directly behind your optic. When not in use the Mepro MMX3 can be “flipped” out of
the way by depressing a pushbutton.

Doesn't suppressor need subsonic ammo?
Normal ammo travels faster than mach 1 hence it creates lots of noise making suppressor ineffective.
