Indo US Relations

Hey did anyone see the episode of SWAT( a pretty popular American TV series) that aired on Dec 6th? It was all about the Hindu-Sikh-Khalistan issue. It involved a Hindu extremist plot to attack a Sikh gurudwara, which is a bit of an anachronism, since no such plan has ever existed. But.. it mentioned the motive for the attack, which was to avenge the terrorist bombing of Air India flight 182 in 1985. The leader of the plot lost his mother in the bombing. It also mentioned the fact that the Air India bombing in 1985 was the single largest terror attack against an airliner, before the 9-11 attacks. I mean, wow! For this to be brought up on a popular, mainstream, prime time TV drama is remarkable. I was bowled over. The secondary plot was about a Hindu couple who opposed their daughter's engagement to a Sikh, feeling that the Sikh was an extremist, which he was not. The show ended with the parents approving their daughter's choice. Awwww, it was nice. And to think, no Canadian show( barring one low key documentary) has dealt with this issue with such sympathy for the Air India victims vis-a-vis Sikh terrorists, even though the majority of the victims of that incident were Canadians of Indian origin. It took an American show.

GoI doesn't do public diplomacy, it doesn't over exert itself beyond it's capacities.

if GoI was such a soft state, folks like harsh mandar won't be jumping up and down on the streets a few years back.
and why was there only one blast outside israeli embassy by iranians, if GoI was a soft state there would have been more such attacks.

read nixon files on what they thought about India in events leading upto 71, India was a much poorer country then.

at best what we can say is that Indian state is a paradox, and it has a strategic communication problem. for a 2500$ per capita country, it is doing just fine.
India was a much poorer country back in 1971!? No it wasnt. India was 10th largest gdp in 1971. Since then US did everything to crush us and they did so.

much poorer in absolute terms.
Rankings dont mean much when it comes to defence spendings or propaganda spendings, since those are spent on real dollars. In 1971 India had less than 25% the money it does now to spend on these things.

Perfect agreement with you but in the process cannot jeopardize rest of the economy. Something has give to prevent Trump imposing disaster on nascent Indian economy.

Yes!, there are no American fighter planes under consideration. Even if grudgingly they offer F35, it is likely to come with a Kill Switch which gives Americans a stranglehold on fighters, if India goes for the American fighters. That will not acceptable and will not happen.

It is other imports from US where some tariffs have to go. As an example Harley Davidson motor cycle import duty of 100% will have to be reduced.

Indian tariffs are too high as it is. Except for tariffs against China (GoI needs to increase those tariffs by 2 or 3 x), GoI needs to reduce tariffs against other countries. Use the leverage of lowering tariffs to negotiate free trade agreements.

look up "ship to mouth" when LBS was PM, he even advocated for the public to skip a meal because there not enough grain to go around. PL-480(food for peace) went on till 69.

And Wheat recieved during PL 480 was of worst quality. Came to know from elder reddish kind.. people rejected or ate it when no options. Ecen for this 'aid' we were blackmailed at every juncture by US. Green revolution though in long term posined lands of Punjab (mostly due to haphazard sarkari implementation) short term it gave India necessary relief from US blackmailing for food grains.

None heard. Hope we stick to our stand. No EU favor is worth giving up food security.

We have too many people close to the poverty line and any single event could push toward the nation into famine or starvation. See what happened in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. They did not engage in food security or anti-inflation practices when it comes to food. Massive disruptions, upheavals, and chaos took place in those societies.

So fuck EU when it comes to food security. I don't give a shit or damn what their concerns are. Their concerns are greatly outweighed by our need to safeguard food security and keep our society in order and functioning.

Your last paragraph says it all….. Thank you

.Trump "the great" ver 2.0 is different from trump ver1.0
.so called US commentators are concerned over musks influence on trump "the great" and calling him fourth pillar of gov
.our concern is musks handler the Chinese and its effect on trump "the greats" Indian policy and any cozying up to China
.swing states played a role in trump TGs massive victory and it's a fact that most Indian origins shifted from democrats to republic

Regarding India's huge trade surplus ,does it include all the royalty American companies recieved from china for the products exported to India directly or via third country, does it include Indian revenue of IT stalwarts like Google,Meta, does it includes all the tax royalties paid by Indian IT sweatshops (with all due respect) to USA.

India can sweeten the deal by buying high priced American military hardware and provide land and other facilities at cut rate prices to other companies considering relocation or expansion. Tesla company is waiting for this opportunity. They are unhappy that Chinese copied all their electric car technology and now are building cut rate priced cars for world export. They wish to relocate when newer and better electric vehicle technology is invented. Already, Tesla’s sister company has acquired rights to use satellite TV in India, in face of local opposition. The whole idea is to invite U.S. businesses to India and via Elon Musk and open the U.S. investment floodgate. These are all good news.
It surely cannot be good news, if for the sake of status quo we have to cough up money and invite ruthless American mercantilism.

He has a real punchable face that Pannun. Idiot
Indeed. Without his pretentious moustache and beard, he looks like mixed breed between Pakjabi and Bhosaddeshi.

on one hand, gora countries promote farmer protests in India that want MSP and public procurement to continue, and on the other hand negotiate with GoI to remove MSP and reduce public stock holding.

either stupid or two faced bunch these fellows.
