Indo US Relations

It is fine because it will not hurt India's economy in the long run. In fact, those manufacturers may want to see local production once they start seeing their products being popular and Indian manufacturers may want to shoehorn in. Sometimes you need outside competition to spur local competition. Too much tariffs lead to complacency and obsolescence.

Except that it won't even happen. :creepy:

Let me explain,

1. Cutting tariffs on automobiles is a big no in India. We have our own lobbyists (domestic manufacturers like, Tata, Mahindra etc) who just won't let it happen. There was a trade war during Trump 1.0 over this.

2. Renewables (read solar panels) is a sector where the govt has been pouring billions (as incentives) to build up domestic capabilities. Heck, a number of US companies (First Solar et al) have set up/are in the process of setting up large plants in India (lured by the incentives proposed by the GoI). They are putting tariffs and NTBs left, right and centre to thwart cheap chong imports. Why would they let go of it all because of the orange man's tantrums?

3. Chemicals? What does the US even manufacture in house? Apart from maybe some high end products which will continue to be imported anyway?

That Magatard is cooking up BS (possibly, inspired from some 'leaks' planted in media?)

India can ink long term energy (NatGas+Oil) deals with burgerland and it makes economic sense too. Do not see them ceding ground elsewhere (not talking about piecemeal orders of Stryker etc here).

The only thing that shall not be touch is food security. Only agricultural related products that boost up food productivity and food security should receive lower tariffs such as better machinery, better facilities, refrigeration, better fertilizers, etc.

That won't happen either.

What exactly will get increased in Imports form US? US cars are not exactly known to be mileage driven and efficient as EU and Asian counterparts.

Xitter's MAGAcels are not really known for authentic newsbreaks, are they?

I think Tesla will finally make way into India.
Some context,
- Tweet says only luxury cars, suits Tesla.
- Musk is expected to meet Modi this week.
- Tesla deliveries fell in the last earnings and so he will want to expand.
- China imposed tariffs on US vehicles last week which will impact Tesla.
- Allowing Tesla market access will soften tariff war more as Musk is Trump’s bro.

Overall, I wouldn’t mind Tesla into India as long as there are still some tariffs on it that wouldn’t severely impact our auto industry.

It would also be a wake up call for our industry to stop slacking and innovate harder/faster than take the market for granted and rely on tariffs to counter foreign competition.

In the long run if played well, GoI can develop leverage over Musk just like how China did.

Starlink should not be allowed though under any circumstances.

Again, importing cars (luxury or otherwise) is a big no. It is an absolute red line if the products are made in china (given tesla's record of selling made in china cars all across Asia). It does not matter if we mind it or not, the domestic lobby would not let it happen.

Nah, disagree. Why should we be the dumping ground for a bunch of US based automakers who are all doing poorly (tesla included) and in desperate need of fresh markets? It also disincentivizes the foreign automakers and component manufacturers (from the Suzukis to the BMWs and Cummins) who are well integrated into domestic supply chains, taking advantage of PLI schemes and using India as an export hub.

In the long run if played well, GoI can develop leverage over Musk just like how China did.

He was offered a deal. He chose to walk out of it and used it as a carrot to obtain concessions from CCPstan. No 2nd chance needed. GoI should continue incentivizing domestic EV makers instead.

US can’t compete with India on solar panels or automobiles. Ford tried and got out. Same thing with GM. US solar manufacturers cannot match the scale and pricing of Indian manufacturers. So it’s a win win situation for India.

Unless US auto companies design and release within 10-20 lakh they will no chance, japs and BTS bois and our own comps are ruling lower and middle segment sections , mahindra is there is upper segments and Its mostly toyota for 24-50 segment with some audis or KIA thrown in. There is simply no segment where I can see them having a decent presence. Plus nobody will buy their designs, pickup trucks might be brought by some wanna be Americans in Punjab they will hardly cross double digits.

Adding to it, fuel economy on these cars suck, its buying a expensive car and then having a high operating cost too, I don't see a reason why any wealthy Indian would move away from Japanese and european brands in higher segments.

Please list down all cars made and sold by Tesla currently around the world along with the price at which they are being offered. You will get to know if Tesla can survive in India.
