Agree to the fact that it all depends on people. That is where the problem is, forget government, we don't need governments to have a sense that we should not be spitting and throwing garbage where we want.

I dont buy the argument that we are poor so we can spit anywhere and throw garbage where we want. Words like gaslighting are freely used here by everyone, it is a matter of fact that Person need not be rich/elitist to have a civic sense to not to spit or to follow traffic rules.

May be we can discuss on this in an appropriate thread.

one correction in my post, tax revenue (gross)comes to about 2000 ₹ per month , instead of 2300 ₹ per annum.

by all means, do have the debate. but make an effort move it forward beyond the generalities of treating the entire country as a monolith. if i search in the old forum, i will find the exact talking points in 2015-16 as well, from some other member. the discussion most of the times does not beyond superficialities.

and those who have spent time and understood the issue, stick around and help others understand it better.

if the discussion is about India as a whole, then make sure all points that are relevant to India as a whole are factored in.
if the discussion is about a state, then make sure all point that are relevant to that state as a whole are factored in.
if the discussion is about a city, then make sure all point that are relevant to that city as a whole are factored in.
if the discussion is about a locality, then make sure all point that are relevant to that locality as a whole are factored in.

ratio of country:state:city:ward would be 1:36:4000:lakhs

this is not such a mystery that folks make it to be, there are straight forward answers.
answer is that, problem and solutions is at municipal corporation and ward level, and folks are trying to see it as a national issue.

and last time 2011 census happened, the official number is that urbanisation was said to be about 31%. now unofficial estimate is that urbanisation is anywhere between 60-65%. we will know the official number after the next census.

which means, urbanisation of India is happening at a pace faster than administration can catch up.

You are deflecting the topic, I am talking about people being lax on following traffic rules and cleanliness. You can read my comments again.

Atleast in south where I am from have not seen any one follow lane discipline, not in city not on highways. I see people riding bikes on footpaths, people spitting where they want. Is it infrastructure which is lacking? no it is we people who lack civic sense.

that particular post is me bringing in a new piece of information, which came into existence in recent years, impact of which is yet to be fully studied.

- population mobility (floating and permanent)
- population density
- urbanisation
- public awareness on civic sense
- gormint resources
- infra to handle rapid urbanisation.

ultimately everything is interconnected.

administrative capacity of local bodies to handle rapid urbanisation is an important factor in this topic. the reason in 2024 we are discussing this topic is because the equation is not getting balanced, since fundamentals are changing every year.

traffic rules and cleanliness come under municipality/municipal corporation domain.

Sure but if people themselves are not being responsible no matter how good a infra we build it will all be of no use. At the end we the people who will have to maintain it and we as a country have no sense of maintaining things. I don't see any silver lining there at all.

In Bharat there are no binaries, everything can be true and false at the same time.

even if there is a silver lining somewhere, meaning some where in some city the equation did balance itself i.e local administration of some city are managing their affairs properly, chances are that piece of information will competing with thousands of negative information on social media, meaning it won't get amplification, since negative stories get more amplification than positive stories.

in practical terms, only folks who are open minded enough to go looking for that type of information will notice that little piece of information.

Oh trust me, I have been that open minded person for a very very long time.

Just yesterday. This is just lack of understanding of traffic rules. Not telling this doesn't happen abroad but in India it happens way too often. Then there is Jaipur incident all human errors, then there is Bangalore - Mysore highway. GfYcR_XXYAARbQg.webp
