There is Asian games and Commonwealth games infrastructure in Delhi. Hardly used and decaying.

Don't want to sound like a socialist commie, but honestly we should spend this sum on refurbishing schools, hospitals and improving basic urban infra. Olympics is a vanity project imo.

Why do we think if we will spend money on hosting Olympics then we will be taking it out from funds for other project and schemes of the country?

Are we not going to grow till 2036 and become near $8-10 Trillion economy?

olympics would result in making of a world class fascility and stadiums those 8-9 billion owuld be invested in infra for shooting we would make ranges ,pools,stadiums and all i think it would be a big step up in our overall sports capabilities and if we start inverting slowly it wont burn our backs with fund shortage
lets say we start investing in olympics from next year we coulld easily build step wise spending 900m-1billion$ per year (would it suck funding yes ,is it waste i think no)

building infra for olympics is not the tough part relatively, maintaining them later is beyond the capacity of the cities they are located in, that has been the global experience so far.

in global financial system, loans are available for building infra, experiments are still going on globally to find the right solution to finance maintaining the big infra that has already been built especially the ones without revenue stream. when we hear abbreviations like PPP, BOT in the news, this is the part gormints and financial systems are trying to address. this is why gormint schools and hospitals end up the way they do, cost of maintenance keeps increasing year after year, and they don't have the revenue stream, and have to depend on gormint grants, grants which are basically loans gormint is taking on behalf of the people to keep the system afloat, because tax revenues are no where close to required levels.

who ever is backing the notion that olympics infra should be built, should also be ready to accept the fact that post-olympics that sports infra will fall into disrepair, simply because it is too costly. this is not an argument against gujarat's olympics bid, just saying be aware of it.
