The Pahalgam terror attack, which took place on April 22, has led to a wave of anger across the country. As a result of this incident, a scene from the 2008 film Shaurya has gone viral. It shows Kay Kay Menon as Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh making a hard-hitting speech. Shockingly, the character is an antagonist and is essentially making a hate speech. Yet, a section of the audience always saw him in a positive light and after the Pahalgam episode, the adulation for him has gone up by many notches. A section of netizens, however, are unhappy with this development as they see Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh’s views as highly problematic.

Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Samar Khan, director of Shaurya, and what he has to say on this aspect. He began by saying, “Even Shah Rukh Khan’s character from Darr (1993) is seen as a hero by some people. You don’t have control over it. So, you just let it be.”

When asked when, according to him, Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh became a hero for some netizens, he replied, “I have no idea. Social media has a mind of its own. It has a way of looking at things in its own way. Hence, I don’t know when and how it happened. Anything taken out of context can sound different. That’s what happened with this particular scene. It was taken out of context. You have to see what happens before the said scene and what happens after the said scene.”

Samar Khan continued, “Context matters. Once you take it out of context, then anybody can seem like a hero or a villain. It has to be seen in totality. One scene does not define a film. Hence, to answer your question, I don’t even remember when it happened. It just happened. People on social media pick it up and suddenly, you use the word ‘viral’ on it. There’s no logic to it!”

Interestingly, Samar Khan’s debut film Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye (2005) recently completed 20 years, on April 15. The feel-good film starred Arshad Warsi and Mahima Chaudhry and featured a lovely cameo by none other than superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye and Shaurya are the only two theatrical films by Samar. When asked when we would see him back as a film director, he smiled and replied, “I know it’s been a while. If I get inspired to make something, I will. Until then, I’ll continue to remain the producer for the shows that I have been doing.”

What Shaurya is all about

Shaurya is loosely based on the cult Hollywood flick A Few Good Men (1992), starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore. It tells the story of Major Siddhant Chaudhary (Rahul Bose); he is assigned the case of Captain Javed Khan (Deepak Dobriyal), who has been accused of shooting Major Virendra Singh Rathore (Pankaj Tripathi) to death. As Siddhant conducts his inquiry, it soon comes to light that Javed killed the Major to save innocents from being butchered.

The climax features Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh’s viral speech where he reveals his personal trauma and ideological bias, which influenced his actions, leading to the wrongful prosecution of Javed. After the speech, Javed is declared innocent while Rudra Pratap Singh is held guilty. Siddhant also gives back to Rudra Pratap Singh over his views towards a particular community, after the verdict is pronounced. The film also starred Minissha Lamba and Jaaved Jaaferi.

>Be mulla director
>Make film besmirching army and hindus
>glorify green soldier shooting ebil hondu officer
>ass "acting" by rahul bose
>absolutely unmemorable film otherwise
>ultra ebil biased pro plus max Bridadier KK Menon's spicy speech supposed to be ebul
>20 years later
>Nobody gives a fuck about the film
>Spicy speech is considered based and red pilled
>tfw greens have been exposed so bad that there is nothing wrong with his dialogue as per people today

The director, producer etc never knew they would score a surprising self goal many years in the future
