The Rama Raya referred to in the first tweet is the ill fated Emperor of the Vijayanagar Empire - Aliya Rama Raya, son in law of the Great Emperor Krishna Deva Raya & the battle is the Battle of Talikota which saw the destruction of the Vijayanagar Empire's capital Hampi by the 5 Muslim kingdoms of the Deccan .

The Empire survived in a tattered condition for another century ending just around the time Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj founded or at any rate began his campaign to create his kingdom - Swarajya.

Many historians ( read the non cucked non Marxists) rightfully consider the Maratha Confederacy / Empire to be the spiritual heirs of the Vijayanagar Empire.

Both these Empires were instrumental in keeping Islam at bay in peninsular India especially the Marathas who single handedly fought a 27 year war against Zebu & the full might of the Mughal Empire at its zenith which for a very brief period of time was in control of almost all of India & possibly saved India from full Islamization.

As an aside I've yet to come across an ethnic Telugu speaker or a Kannadiga or a Maratha / Maharashtrian or even a Rajput or an Assamese or a Bundelkhandi or a Hindu Jat larp - Asi Hinduon nu bachaya si & there's a whole dedicated corpus of history detailing their heroics & immense sacrifice.

This is truly a revelation. The medieval world even in our parts were much more connected than previously thought.

On a similar note, I recall reading a thread long ago about an Emperor of the Ming Dynasty wondering why didn't teachers, monks, businessmen etc from India make their way to China like before.

Initially it was thought that the Yuan Dynasty resoknsiy for much destruction in China would have wrought similar destruction in India or that the aforementioned people may have come to China but seeing the Mongols in charge decided to return.

Long story short the Ming Emperor decided to send to send a delegation to India where they either landed in Delhi or on the coast ( no idea which coast) only to be told India was under Muslim yoke which prompted the embassy to return to China with the news.

Apparently there was much disappointment at court at this news & lament for the fate of India. We see a reflection of this in modern times when Tagore went to China onna visit with people there wondering how could his visit foster better ties when his own people weren't in charge of their own destiny.
