Modernisation of Indian Army Infantry

They are for saturation fire only. The scope team will be some where else.
This is retarded. Is the bulk of the infantry supposed to just spray and pray and lay down suppressive fire ? while the "elites" equipped with that ever so valuable and expensive thing called "scopes" come in for the potshots ? Has money for Apaches, Jetpacks, quadruped drones; can't find funds to standardize scopes for the entire infantry in 2024. Grunts are treated like coolies, who aren't worth spending much on. Everytime there's a brown pants moment in the border, some units get an incomplete package to modernize, bulk of the infantry "modernizes" at a snail's pace. The fact the patkas are not already rotting in a godown somewhere, and are being actively fielded, alongside literal cold war era load bearing vests, and other assortments of pathetic fiberglass helmets and literal african bush war issue AKs, makes my blood boil. And then some OSINT clowns make a big deal about bog standard gear used by SF that is supposed to be infantry standard issue in this day and age.

Now i know the state of the jawans equipment is because of the reversal of Hanlon's Razor, i used to always assume it's because of incompetence, but now it just clicked with this statement of yours.

Fucking Genrols think themselves as high and mighty gora sahibs.

On paper even this is not "that" bad of an idea. This is more or less the exact doctrine on which Soviet war fighting was (tbh, even is) based on. For example tonnes of Tier-II T-72s would engage the enemy and then smaller numbers of Tier-I T-90s would finish them. Or the concept of conscripts and regulars.

But the problem is that even our Tier-I things are not what they should have been.

Para SF is what Ghatak should've been.
Ghatak is what infantry should've been.
Infantry is what CAPFs should've been.

With all due respect Para is what Marines are and there is no SEALS or MARSOC here.

Since the Tier I are in the inner cordon, they are the spearheads so hence best gear is provided comparative to others. The outer cordon could be then the RR (Tier II) for covering and engaging the tango from distance, then along with them you have the snipers as well to create anti exfil deployment, and the third cordon is then your CAPFs and police.

It could be better if the inner cordon is Tier I only, and the middle cordon is Tier I and Tier II both. There should be interchangeability between different SFs from army or the navy wing for setting up inner cordon.

It is indeed the budget. Budget doesn't allow you to provide Tier II with HK 417 or IWI ARAD. More than 50% of Military budget is spent on maintenance only. Unless until ordnance factory or DRDO come up with a really good design and with good price tag which can be procured and systematically becomes the part of both Tier I and Tier II.

Not always. Many a time you will see even the jawans (JCOs/Senior NCOs) not ready for small-arms/soldier-level modernization. My general observation, the younger ones do look for modern equipment (officers and jawans, alike) while the senior servicemen don't unless they are <=Maj rank officers from the technology-oriented arms like EME, Engineers, Signals, etc.
Haha he made very valid points!
He isn't entitled to do that

Current wars in Ukraine and also in ME have been taken over by drones, flying bombs, long range UCAVs and surveillance drones etc. Mortars, tube artillery and other hand held weapons are becoming lesser relevant. The fighter jets are still very relevant as Israelis have used jets to the maximum extent. Pictures are showing up where flying bombs, drones are crashing on to the military vehicles or tanks and five pounds of explosive is setting them on fire.

Indian Infantry is heavily focused on hand held weapons. These are the key for offence and defence but in next short period (5 years) the focus has to be shifted to attack drones and flying bombs. At the moment Chinese are mass producing these in hundreds and thousands and anybody who needs these can go and get it from them, also very cheap. We know not much about the Chinese drones or their quality. These are cheap hence bought and sold without much restrictions. Pakistan has a multitude of these drones.

Not very sure, where about is India in quality drone manufacture. Fortunately, the private sector is taking the lead in their design and manufacture. That means, if approved then these could be delivered to the Indian Army quickly. A major problem is type and quality which the Indian Army will approve. That testing and retesting and testing under multitude of conditions like they did for ATAAGS Artillery could take years. Hence the frontline troops may be handicapped because the approval process takes very long. That is a problem which discourages small and medium suppliers from proceeding with the design and su[[ly.

Somebody with better knowledge, please educate us on battlefield drones, flying bombs inducted in the army or under test and likely to be inducted. Please do include the flying mules also to ferry urgent supplies from one spot to the other...... Thank you.
