Modernisation of Indian Army Infantry (6 Viewers)

Few more years till they standardize new camo cover on helmets
Forget camo cover, they still have that 70’s fibre glass helmet in large scale use ! And vets defend it saying not everyone is equipped to same level, only frontline troops get newer helmets. But I have seen even troppers in JnK using patka and fibreglass helmet. Why has no further large scale MKU helmets order been placed yet by IA ? Jawan’s life is cheap ?

Patka is more protective than general ballistic helmets, unless you are against mortar, artillary or fragments that can come at you from any direction, which the soldier in kashmir do not face.
What they face are terrorists armed with Aks and encounter that is most of the time happens in relatively close range.
With patka you are atleast protected from front, with normal ballistic helmets you aren't.

Normal ballistic helmets, are designed to stop pistol calibre from all directions where it covers the head at most.
Patka has a metal band at front designed to stop rifle rounds, from sides it's usual pistol calibre protection, from top no protection only padding( for weight saving)

You can also add a a modular ceramic add-on plate, to increase protection of standard ballistic helmets to rifle calibre from all directions, except top.
It's more protective than patka, but also heavier.

Now, new helmets have developed that can stop ak rounds from all direction.
And small scale orders have been given

But until it becomes standard, it's much better for soldiers to wear patka or helmets with ceramic add-on than conventional ballistic helmets.

Now in a "war situation", fragments( from artillary, mortar, bombs etc) are a big threat, so I would chose normal ballistic helmet over patka, but kashmir is counter insurgency.

My main issue is the existence of those 70’s era fibre glass useless topis. They should have been phased out yesterday
