Ali did his famous rope-a-dope and ate shot after shot for 10 whole rounds, just sitting by the rope, covering his face and getting pounded in the kidneys by George Foreman. When George tired after 12 rounds, Ali pounced, knocked him out and won - Ali also was the lightest puncher in the heavyweight class - his whole thing was movement and speed for a big man ( hence floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee monicker). Ali pissed blood for the next month, so mashed up were his kidneys. Thats why ALL of Ali's knockout blows were combo-punches, not a one-shot kill switch like George Foreman or Mike Tyson.
When asked however, after this unthinkable legendary win, what was going through his head when george was pounding the bejeezus outta him, Ali said 'in boxing, its not the hardest punch that wins, its the toughest jaw.
