Operation Sindoor

Guys I have a genuine question. When we are striking their Air base ,why do we have news of only the runway being damaged. Shouldn't there be some damage to their fighter jets ? Or they are parked in some safe bunkers ?
Damaging runways is part of achieving air superiority. Every time we damage their runways, we stop some of jets from taking off, effectively rendering them useless.

The other part is destroying their AD. Once both are done, we will have a free reign inside their airspace, and thats when we will use bunker buster bombs to destroy their aircraft on the ground, in hangars.

gormint has officially stated that India's response would be calibrated, measured and non-escalatory.

in effect, in this case since what ever came into our territory last night, was launched from these air bases. hence a non-escalatory response of not hitting their air assets only runway.

Runways are the main target. Because the IAF deems there is more value in temporarily disabling enemy airstrip for a couple of days and thereby preventing all its military and civilian (human shield) aircraft from joining the daily air campaign. More value than permanently disabling/ destroying a handful of enemy aircraft in the ground.

After all, we have proven that we can hit their airstrip with impunity, so we can hit their airstrip again the moment they finish repairing it and they're back to square one. We can continue this indefinitely and keep them out of the fight and on the ground. After that is SEAD/DEAD (the proper one, with RudraM1, not the current soft taps by drones). All the while keeping their jets from being able to fly at all by keeping their airstrips disabled. Until finally we have total air superiority. Then we can take out each aircraft on the ground, one by one. (Of course this is the entire ladder and we are only at the very lower rungs of it right now)

EDIT: another major reason is that the runway is a much bigger target that can't be shifted. An aircraft can be moved around and you'll have to pinpoint where it is before hitting it.
