Russian jets always perform - they are not as high end in performance metrics, but they are actually far more reliable than Amreeki crap and is far less maintanance heavy. This is because russian design doctrine has always been 'i need to fly this in the arctic as well as in uzbekistan hot desert' and they usually build their products with this specification in mind.
They are not seeking a 'surgical tool for a bombing mission overseas' like USA and chasing a certain silver bullet- like being bestest in stealth or bestest in a2a combat, they are also looking at it in more realistic 'does my plane fly in uzbekistan without special hangar maintance ? da ? ok. good. capitalist plane is very good in the air, but its a little bitch when it has to fly outside its american temperate park ground' .
