The Pakistani 'Bastard' AK 203 - VSK 100-3

Pakistani army and paramilitary forces have been seen using a new AKM derivative made in Belarus is recent years. The Pakistanis have previously attempted license manufacture the AK 103 under the auspices of Russia however the AK 203 deal with India has closed this avenue in 2019.

This left a vacuum in the 'submachine gun' category of small arms of the Pakistani forces who have been using the Type 56 rifles in some form for over half a century. Pakistan had even produced a semi-official AK 103 copy called the SMG PK 21 with an accuracy of >3.5 MOA and a 400m effective range, however this variant never entered mainstream service.

The Belarussians with the silent blessing of Russia, stepped into the vacuum with their VSK-100 rifle offering which was a 'fork' of the AK 103M/AK 203 in all but name.

Review of the VSK 100-3 by a serving Pakistan army/police personnel. Key points about the weapon :
  • Full length picatinny rails
  • Upper and lower polymer handguards with picatinny rails at 12'o clock and 6'o clock positions
  • Provision for picatinny rails at 3'o clock and 9'o clock positions like the AK 103 series
  • Improved polymer pistol grip
  • Higher quality recoil spring guide rod
  • Hinged dust cover
  • Vepr style folding stock with cheek riser. (Folding factory stock will NOT accept any AK/Saiga stock because it does not use a standard AK type rear trunnion.)
  • No lightening cuts on gas block or bolt-carrier group (but lighter)
  • 1975 Type 56-2 pattern side adaptor (sights)
  • Izhmash Side-Stamped style steel AK magazines
  • Mostly issued iron sights and sometimes with red dot or Chinese thermal sights

Upgraded Type 89. Man I would love to see such a full length upgrade on Insas stock.
View attachment 32848
these upgrades seems to be happening after they started inducting their SCAR copy Howa Type-20, which is supposed to compliment eventually replace serving Howa Type-89 in their arsenal,

btw, it's not first time they are upgrading their Howa Type-89 rifles though, but things i've heard about their upgrade is just...
> So JGSDF sent many of their men for UN Peacekeeping missions, found their Type-89 to be far behind than other peacekeeper's weapons, mainly because pre-upgrades Type-89 in their service had been designed in mind with 'pessimist' tactics, i.e. only right hand side had fire selector and not left hand side, so a soldier has to be sure about his intent to fire the weapon and follow the order thoroughly from going on with any fire mode etc...then the rifle was based on AR-18 but turned out to be somewhat heavier than that, and gas piston system on the rifle was also had tendency to go dirty to corrosive on some kind of ammos 🤷‍♂️

> eventuall JGSDF got their peacekeepers' Type-89 upgraded with top rails and new handguards and clip-on left side fire selector etc, some even got very SCAR like folding + adjustable buttstocks and some were converted to 'carbines' = shorter barrel length overall
> BUT once these peacekeepers returned home, their issued upgraded rifles were...degraded back to their original self over 'reasons' 🤷‍♂️
perhaps some of them retained those clip-on fire selectors on left (natural) side but yeah many went back to being non-tactical versions in their service

everyone shits on INSAS for reasons but in some ways it's been more 'tactical' than Type-89 original version
