Army nowadays do all kind of testing including on moon, didn't it occurred to them that insas should've been tested on higher terrain?

Current version of INSAS is fine. Well we are doing FAB mod on it. The INSAS Family gives rise to current guns like CQB, Ugram, MCIWS. ARDE needs to have certain overseas consultant who can help them to refine the gun especially ergonomics and modern chasis.
Old soldiers love the INSAS. They also say that the initial lots had big problems, and that what made the impression among all. Negative things stay quite long.

Also it seems that INSAS mod project is on hold.

Retired insas are being used by many state police, they are saying it's big improvement over ancient .303 guns

Indian Army Infantry Rifle procurement is joke. Don't even think anyone is using Common sense. We are only country where certain X section have an AR based 7.62x51 rifle and remaining have AK based 7.62x39 rifle. Now the Squad weapon is again an Negev which is 7.62x51 gun.

So nothing shocking seeing INSAS mod on hold, since none of them use common sense in Army for long time.

If my hunch is right, we will see Police move from INSAS to AK series soon in the future. Given that we have started licensed production nowadays

Earlier also srl was used, reason that army is using 7.62*51 is that they need better range in mountain warfare

There are no details about INSAS MK1C or the 1C in Wiki. If anyone in DFB has an editing authority, they could add the details in wiki with a neat picture.

India should consider converting the older Bren L4 LMGs into belt fed RWS mounts.

The Ukrainians have mounted their WW1 era Maxim MMGs onto RWS and have employed them successfully in battle.

Multiple private firms are already doing the same with the Negev 7 LMG on a RWS.

Belt fed bren could be very useful as anti drone gun (hard kill) rather than insas abomination mount three of thease bren with a thermal scope on tripod there you get cheap effective counter for small drone Russian and Ukrainian use something similar
