I'll talk about a new term today. It's called "Run of river dam". It comprises 4 words? Think you can handle 4 word phrases buddy? Now it might a little complicated, but I want you to stay with me here okay? These type of dams have very little to no reservoir. Now, I know it's a big word, but what it means is a place to hold water, like a bucket! I'm sure you've seen one in your washroom.
So, if you pour water in a glass, and keep pouring, it will overflow. Think of the dam as like that okay? I promise, we're at the end. Just a bit more, buddy. If a glass overflows, you just have you use your moppy moppy. But if a dam with a shallow (a word meaning not deep) reservoir overflows, it'll be flood everywhere

Dams are usually very big and complex, think like a toy truck, but very very big and lot more things inside. It will take loooots of time to change plans, get new funding, and planning to retrofit (a word that means to add things later) it. Especially if one thinks of a deep basin.
