Its r73 on truck off course one would deploy it in masses

We can and should deploy samar air defence in big numbers close to borders to compensate its range and harass paki air asset

I know uses r73e still can be used in good numbers and provide layered air defence only samar and bofors and zu23 rest all are well connected

Samar can't be used in masses...
It's Lunchers will be limited numbers just use r73 missiles which are not fit to fly with fighter jets ...
We are not using new r73 missiles....
Also it's not so effective, still can shoot uavs

R 73 is outdated for air to air role still pretty good for its role as samar and its cheap system we can get this launcher in big numbers

IAF has "thousands" of R-73 which can't be used in air to air role.. Samar can be used in huge numbers..
We have purchased 4700 of them since the 80s and several hundred R-27s

I think our SAMs are :
1. 15 squadrons(8 launchers per squadron) of Akash - out of which first 2+6 were delivered by 2013 and rest 7 were with seeker and should have been delivered by 2019-20. Each of these should have 125 missiles(5 reloads). This should be used for point defence.
2. 9 squadrons(Can someone confirm if it was 18 launchers or 18 battalions) of Spyder SAM. Some 750+750 Python and Derby were ordered with these as per SIPRI. Again, this should be used for point defence.
3. SAMAR 1 and 2 - jugaad solution by IAF to use EOL R73 and R27 missiles. I am not sure if R77s are also being used this way, or will go this way if Astra mk1 gets inducted in good numbers. There should be over 1000 such missiles still in action with SAMAR 1 and 2, not sure about exact numbers though, as R73 and R27 ordering information and EOL details are not public.
4. Old systems. Not sure but some Pechora were 'digitalized' to make them work longer. Someone with more knowledge than I have can pitch in.
5. MRSAM - 9 squadrons having 6 launchers in each. I believe at least 3-4 squadrons should be live now. Used for area defence.
6. S400 - 3 squadrons deployed, all can target western sector. Used for theatre defence.

Add to this IA orders for 2+2 regiments of Akash SAM and 5 regiments of MRSAM.

Except MRSAM, I believe all others are completely delivered and deployed.

So we should be ok against fighter, cruise missile, MALE and HALE UAV defence etc.

We don't have anything against saturation attacks from rockets and drones both(something which is cheap per interceptor round and can be used like iron dome). None of the systems stated above can handle more than 20-30 interceptions before reload(depends on Pk as well but still).

Adding to the above note on tactical deficiencies - with rockets ranging > 120km becoming common with 2 of our arch enemies, and our VPs located within 100kms from border, we should actually look for a cheaper version of VSHORAD, in packs of 20-40 for anti rocket interceptor(ala home grown dome). I believe some private firm is already investing in low cost anti-drone interceptor.
This + 30mm and 40mm prefrag rounds with proximity fuse should give us anti-rocket and anti-drone/swarm capabilities.
Problem is that the threat is already there but these solutions are not.
Mere 240 sudarshans are not going to cut it. Assuming 4 per VPs, we are covering 60 VPs with these new guns.

Numbers of mig29/29k,mirages in service

70 Single seaters 10 trainer mig 29s were procured
21 have crashed. IAF has total of 59 mig29s left.
IAF has 52 single seaters migs 29s & 7 trainers not much of use in combat. Especially in a2a domain.

Navy procured 45 mig29k 5 trainers and 40 single seaters. 2 trainer have crashed and 3 single seaters have crashed. IN has total of 40 mig29k in service. However the mig29k trainers are as capable as single seaters ones unlike IAFs mig29s. trainer are upgradable.
Total of 92 combat capable mig29s in service not counting IAF trainers...

180 Tejas mk1A + 120 Tejas mk2 + 84 Super sukhoi su30 + 40 naval mig29k = 424 uttam aesa Radars. If considered 16 foc mk1s, we have total number of 440 uttam derivatives.
Also haven't considered 12 new su30s On order they will come with super sukhoi upgrades.
They mentioned ~440 afterall.

Or maybe, which i hope so happens 149 mig29s,k+mirages + 180 Tejas mk1As + 84 super sukhoi = total of 425 Uttam AESA radars.

Last time, when IAF wanted some 200 Tejas MK2 planes. Tejas MK2 is supposed to replace 3 oldies Mirage 2k, Jaguar and Mig 29. Adding them up will go around 200-250. It is better to have this level of numbers.

I think few should be. As there is no major induction happening until 2035 beside 36 or 40 piecemall rafales.
Due to network centric operation even few aircraft upgrades per squadron as per requirements should be enough as anyways this aircrafts will be retired by 2040 upgrading them with existing uttam aesa radar would be cost effective. Due to economies of scale as we would making it for 180 Tejas mk1As anyways.
