Indian Air Force: News & Discussions

Lmao yeah again rhetorics mirred with conspiracy theories without any substance..

Yeah just 36 F35 will cast death kneel on AMCA lol.

Nd about AMCA..may i ask u how many AMCA MK1 has IAF committed for anyways??

Lol dude i hate to break it for u but it's just paltry 40 nos for AMCA MK1 that itself is a giveaway how IAF will order more AMCA mk2 instead of mk1 which again will arrive after 2040 unfortunately.

Nd to again quash ur rhetorics South korea bought F35 did it killed it's kf21..
Japan brought F35 did it killed it's 6th gen fighter program??

But yeah when IAF will buy F35 it will kill AMCA .. lol
I still dont grasp what will 36 f35 accomplish

It does nothing except drain precious money.

The next skirmish with pakistan is happening regardless of what IAF or for that matter PAF has in its inventory.

If the point is to deter j35 from ingressing into indian territory, should be spending on air defence. And clearly india doesnt need StEAlTh to strike inside pakistan.

Unless you think f35 and j35 are going to be dogfighting each other.. I dont get it.

China has had 5th generation fighters for years now. So it can't be that.

Our goal is never defence against porkistan since kargil, peace with porkistan is meaningless.
Sam system can alone stop j35 but during air to air battle 4th gen fighters will struggle against it.
F35 is currently the only fighter jet which has true stealth as its RCS in proper stealth can go below 0.03

Yeah sure we believe you.. yeah countries like USA,China, Russia, turkey, Korea etc are fool of highest order who are developing their own 5th nd 6th gen fighters.. if all of stealth fighters can be countered by just ADS.. right?

Oki let me break it down for u why we need 2-3 Squadrons of F35/su57

1. VLO 5th gen associated Training nd tactics- 5th gen are not just stealth fighter or a tool of war instead if PAF acquires 5th gen in 2028-29-30 before india then it will be ahead not only in tech but also in the training nd tactics associated with VLO 5th gen fighters. IAF will be left far behind nd PAF will have huge headstart in this regard. With AMCA arriving in 2035 by that time PAF would hv mastered all VLO related tactics again a massive disadvantage nd psychological blow to much more better funded IAF nd 3rd largest economy (by that time).

Thus having 2 squadrons of F35/SU57 will not be just deterrence but it will also help IAF in developing it's own VLO 5th gen associated training nd tactics till the time AMCA arrive nd it will help in achieving parity with ur enemy.

2. Deterrence - In all future war/skirmish Airforce will play the decisive role however it is absurd to assume it will happen regardless of what IAF has why? Ever heard of word deterrence?? Ur adversary's action will hinge on ur inventory nd capabilities

Oki let me give u example of how deterrence work wrt to capabilities.. in Kargil war when we had BVR advantage over PAF.. it deterred PAF from coming anywhere near LOC.. we even had video of mig29 pilots locking F-16s of PAF in bvr ranges..IAF bvr equipped mig29 deterred PAF from taking any offensive now in 2019 when PAF had BVR advantage over IAF with their AMRAAMs it responded with swift retort within 24 hours of IAF bombing balakot because our BVR advantage nd it's deterrence was lost.

Now this time PAF was completely missing from the picture nd couldn't repeat what IAF did (bombing 9 targets across paxtan) even after 3 days why?
Because it was vary of threat faced to it by presence of Long range ADS S400 (IMPORTED CAPABILITY) .. thus S400 WAS THE DETERRENCE!! Nd because of it PAF undertook a mission by lobbing CM400Akg to destroy it.. S400 was their prime target.

PAF getting their hands on VLO 5th gen J35 it will enable them to target S400 or any ADS with less fear of interception.. stealth fighters will also get detected but the difference between 4th gen nd 5th gen is the detection range while 4th gen can be detected nd targeted 100s of km away.. VLO 5th gen can only be detected nd targeted if it's near it's target as compared to 4th gen fighters.

Also J35 will be a strong deterrence against IAF 4th gen vectors.. nd with it PAF will get targeting solutions against all IAF 4th gen vectors before IAF can target nd respond thus it can lead to high attrition rate on our side again huge psychological blow for a better funded IAF.

So that's why just 2 squadrons of F35/Su57 will be a decisive deterrence against PAF nd will help in achieving parity not only in terms of capabilities but will also help IAF in establishing it's own VLO 5th gen related tactics nd training eventually the learnings will be employed in AMCA MK1 when it arrives.

Very true with J35 paxtan will not only hv tech advantage over IAF but will it also enable a huge training edge.

All emotional peeps here are just luking at stealth fighters wrt to just tools of war but are completely ignoring ( because of their limited knowledge) the importance of traning wrt 5th gen stealth fighters.

IAF just can't let PAF hv capabilities nd training edge over them. That's a recipe for disaster .. PAF now has advantage over IAF with no of operational AWACS but with 5th gen fighters it will gain a massive edge in every sphere which won't bode well for IAF or INDIA.

Indian Air Force needs Tejas, CATS Warrior, and Ghatak UCAV to strengthen its combat capabilities.
CATS Warrior most likely won't be inducted, it is not a sanctioned project but just a HAL product. PTAE-W is a turbojet, not even a turbofan. With pathetic combat radius, it is going to remain a prototype. Ghatak is centuries away.
Alright, let us discuss a scenario. Assume that I know for a fact that Pakis are going to get J35 and AAA upgrades by next year and will attempt another misadventure. Assume that this is a known fact. What do you think we can do starting from today, to counter this threat?

Their geography is a bottleneck they can't cope with. They can hardly intercept subsonic cruise missiles (given the sound of the turbojet I presume Nur Khan was struck with two SCALPs). They couldn't touch supersonic cruise missiles, they won't be able to stop their airbases getting cratered by us. Any aircraft in such a scenario gets rendered useless. You strike Karachi and their Navy is rendered useless.

porkis in no way are a threat beyond their numbers, only threat is china.

It's all about escalation equation with porky . In future escalation with their stealth fighterjets they might get something to show off in social media unlike today but if we go ahead and deside to fck them it will take just 2/3 days of air and naval operation . Then they ll get back to their usual crying of we are nuclear mulk , we ll destroy everything Ham nehi bachenge tum ko bhi sath le ke jayenge and so on .. And then a cease fire after destroying their lots of strategic assets . And then this forum again gets filled with black pillers .

It would be foolish to underestimate enemy.. PAF is the only competent force nd it's neer peer to IAF.. even now they have advantage our IAF with no of Awacs.

Of course they will. But in this forum, we can still debate the pros and cons of various decisions. And suggest alternatives. And I think its prudent to not buy the American Electronic Signature Library And Analytics As A Service a.k.a. F35 MDF. I don't want to buy tens of sensor platforms (F35) from USA when those sensors will clearly be flying around freely in our airspace and absorbing the signatures of Indian IADS and other Indian weapons and EW suites only for the data to be neatly packed and sent to USA the moment our bought F35 land on our airbase after every single sortie.

Alright, let us discuss a scenario. Assume that I know for a fact that Pakis are going to get J35 and AAA upgrades by next year and will attempt another misadventure. Assume that this is a known fact. What do you think we can do starting from today, to counter this threat?

Exactly for our deterrence to work we need strong airforce. Just launching few brahmos won't cut it.

U down their aircrafts in air with A2A kills nd u will see paxtan shytting bricks.

If we neuter PAF then whole of paxtan war fighting moral will take a massive hit with huge psychological blow.

For that u need DETERRENCE!!

It is not. If they were as competent as they claimed, they would not have got screwed for 3 days straight on dozens of targets. Even in 2019, with a strike package of 24 aircrafts against 6 defenders from Indian side (2 of which were MiG-21) their most advanced Block-52 F-16s flown by CCS squadron managed to get only one MiG-21, with alleged loss of an F-16 (even if we're ignoring it due to lack of evidence).

I will consider them a threat when they get a very dense air defence network. By that time we will probably induct lots of QR-SAMs, XR-SAMs, Akash-NG as newer systems and repeat orders of various existing ones like MR-SAM or maybe even S-400s.

Their loitering munitions proved to be a dud, they can't compete with Indian equivalents in terms of production capacity.

This time they only got deterred by presence of Long range ADS in our inventory. All 4th gen fighters are at huge disadvantage against long range strategic ADS like S400.

but with impeding 5th gen fighters it will enable them to counter this. As electronic stealth are no counter to stealth shaping of a true 5th gen fighters.

5th gen will also be detected but the difference in range between detecting a 5th gen fighters against a 4th fighters flying with full weapon load (increased RCS) is huge. That's why 5th gen nd now 6th gen are the answers to the long range strategic ADS.

Also study how isreali air force employed F35 to deter Iran's layered ADS (yes Iran has more layered SAM systems even when compared to india) just search on google how many sam system iran has nd u will know.

Still isreal was able to defeat Iran's layered ADS while employing F35

That's why presence of a true stealth 5th gen fighters is a threat to any IADS

Index from above document.

even if we give benefit of doubt to IAF that they are internally geared towards getting this done, i am assuming this list alone will take 10-15 years to reach induction stage, largely because of the certification process that air related assets usually take.

on top of this, there is bound to be re-prioritisation adjusting to evolving threat perceptions in coming years.

Calm down buddy. I'm not trying to make this personal. I was merely pointing out two well known facts:-
1.) The F35 MDF, around which the entire F35 avionics architecture is built, are meant to do what you are deeming as conspiracy theories.
2.) That even Israel didn't get a pass on that, so India getting it is rather debatable.

If you can somehow convince the Americans to give us the backend on their MDF black magic as well, I'd personally crowd fund a campaign to buy the F35, because its a good plane and we do need them.

Yep. That's what I said in another thread:-
The real reply to Paki getting J35 should be a massive increase in our offensive missile forces. Our objective should be to neutralize the J35 in the airbases before they can take off. Pakis can't easily remedy their lackluster AD. And missiles are our strength, so leverage our strength and enemy weakness, make taking down J35 on Paki airbases an operational objective at least, if not a strategic objective. Its not like they'll buy more than a squadron of J35, its not many targets even if they're hidden in HAS.

We have already set the stage that next time, we will hit Paki Armed Forces directly, no "terrorist targets only hit" drama like 2019 or this time. So we can easily take out J35 on ground itself.

Yet here we see members running helter skelter wondering which 5th gen FA we will buy to fight off Paki J35 smh..... we will need 5th gen FA against PLAAF, not PAF.
Like I've already explained, against Paki purchase of Chinese 5th gen FA, we don't need to panic buy 5th gen FA of our own, simply leverage their lack of a good AD and strategic depth, use our missiles to kill J35 on the ground.

Against PLAAF, this doesn't work. But still, instead of panic buying 5th gen FA, our main thrust should be getting a stealthy CCA like Ghatak operational ASAP with good IIR and radar modules, then develop BVR tactics that leverage these CCA as pickets ahead of our 4.5th gen FA. Use sensor netting to get firing solutions. Focus on ensuring the ability to replace loses and make a huge number of these CCA at a reasonable cost (indigenization of almost entire supply chain is possible)

In a parallel effort, proliferate MANPADs (DRDO VSHORADs), their IIR seekers can target Chinese 5th gen and they will be stationed in Himalayas, so their reach will be enough to hit even high flying Chinese 5th gen FA. Use L band and VHF band radars for cues on where the a Chinese 5gen FA are, so MANPADs can be deployed on time and location.

This is stuff we can do on our own without relying on others and present an asymmetrical but viable defense against enemy 5th gen FA.

Make these and AMCA the focus of our funding. If you still have spare funds after that, consider Su57 panic buy / amca de-risk buy
Frankly, i would prefer we buy a 5th gen FA asap. But I don't think F35 or Su57 are prudent choices at this point. I'd rather we do the aforementioned and take our chances building an asymmetric defence. There are really no good choices here. We are between a rock and a hard place. But as FM Sam Manekshaw used to say: make a decision. Even a wrong decision is better than indecision. So I think our top brass should make the decision to not panic buy 5th gen FA.

Also study how isreali air force employed F35 to deter Iran's layered ADS (yes Iran has more layered SAM systems even when compared to india) just search on google how many sam system iran has nd u will know.
A SAM system that couldn't act against paksitan airforce during Op Margbar Sarmachar? No wonder it's a cakewalk for israel.

False equivalence those were symbolic stikes Iran didn't even employ it during that conflict iran launched symbolic BM in paxtan.. paxtan returned with symbolic BM launch of their own.. both go home Happy..

Nd recently houthi targeted USAF F35 with Iranian-supplied “358” loitering SAM (also referred to as Saqr-1 by the Houthis). It was dangerously close to F35 as it has infrared seeker.

Let me provide u example of iran layered ADS

Bavar-373 (300+ km), Mehran (320 km), Sayyad-3F (100–150 km), 15th Khordad (120 km), Ra’ad (50–105 km), Sayyad-2 (75–100 km), 358 Loitering SAM (100 km), 359 Loitering SAM (150 km), S300.

Iran for decades hv invested heavily on building it's own capabilities in ADS domain.

Iran does have layered air defence system they are also good in missile tech
does iran also have integrated air defence and something similar to our akashteer ?
Do they have good radars ? and why buy s300 when you already have your own version already deployed
I am just curious

Calm down buddy. I'm not trying to make this personal. I was merely pointing out two well known facts:-
1.) The F35 MDF, around which the entire F35 avionics architecture is built, are meant to do what you are deeming as conspiracy theories.
2.) That even Israel didn't get a pass on that, so India getting it is rather debatable.

If you can somehow convince the Americans to give us the backend on their MDF black magic as well, I'd personally crowd fund a campaign to buy the F35, because its a good plane and we do need them.

Yep. That's what I said in another thread:-

Ur argument that the F35 MDF serves as conspiratorial purpose is literally baseless..

MDF is not some mysterious nd conspiratorial element instead it's role is grounded in operational necessity...not speculative or nefarious purposes...lol as u seems to making it to be..It is developed in the USAF mission data load development nd Integration laboratory nd it is tailored for each operator’s needs.. as seen with countries like Israel, Japan, and South Korea..

Now coming on to isreali F35 adir contrary to ur claim..Israel has secured significant customization rights for its F-35I Adir..including partial access to the avionics architecture nd MDF to suit it's needs.. it negotiated the ability to integrate it's own electronic warfare systems.. guided bombs etc.. Israel also added a plug-nd-play feature to the F-35’s main computer..allowing the integration of it's indigenous electronics and external jamming pods... This customization effectively grants Israel enough operational autonomy as it's F-35I can use tailored threat libraries nd EW systems independent of the standard US provided MDF channel.. It has also secured enough control to adapt the F-35I to its needs..including modifying MDFs to address regional threats like Iranian nd Syrian air defenses..

The example of how isreal employed F35 to defeat Iran's layered ADS is below.

F35 is offered to india now the onus is on IAF nd GOI to negotiate on the same level like isreal did for their F35ADIR specially when the framework already exist for such modifications.

I for one only advocate for F35 Adir like capability nd no less. If govt fails to negotiate on the same level then obviously it won't go ahead with purchase. So we all can keep assuming while cooking rhetorics but as i hv said already we hv competent authorities in IAF nd GOI to take care of their core interest.

Dude iran signed S300 deal way back in 2007 while it got delivered in 2016 due to sanctions meanwhile their s300 equivalent nd most potent bavar 373 Sam only got deployed recently in 2019..
Their domestic SAM systems are much more mature nd with strong capabilities to whatever peacemeal pieces PAF had

nd yes they have integrated ADS nd It is managed by the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Defense Force (IRIADF) and the IRGC aerospace force.

As far as i know iranian air defence isn't properly integrated and they certainly doesn't have anything same to our akashteer they do have decent air defence system which may or may not be more dense than indian one but it is certainly not better than ours there are alot of other things to it which makes an air defence system effective
I believe non of the air defence system is often 100% effective but even 5 gen aircraft will have hard time attacking net centric dense multi layered air defence system just for example india have deployed multiple radars to track launch of pakistani BM

Man! I still can't seem to wrap my mind around with where this MRFA Tender is progressing towards!

Will this Tender even happen in the first place? Like Seriously?
Will we end up scraping the tender altogether like we did with the original MMRCA tender and go for an off the shelf purchase of a limited numbers of 36 or more Rafales from the French?
WHAT IS EVEN THE END GOAL?

It is a well established fact that the most logical choice in MMRCA 2.0/MRFA at the current moment is the Dassault Rafale from both an economical as well as a geopolitical point of view. Considering we already have 36 Rafales in the Indian Airforce and now our Navy is slated to add 26 Rafale-Ms to its air-wing, also we have invested a lot in the infrastructure for Rafale too, it makes perfect sense to go ahead and select it over any other European, American or Russian bird. MMRCA is necessary if we want to meet our squadron requirements.

If we want to truly fight a Two-Front war against China and Pakistan, then we better fastrack this tender or I am afraid that we are going to see some bad days ahead, I foresee a conflict with China somewhere in the near future. But considering how bad the political unrest is in Pakistan and conflict among internal elements (Balochistan being a prime example) I do not see how Pakistan can afford to fight against India or mount any sort of meaning assault, only China will be the one which will give us true competition in a war.

Pakistan is no longer a competitor with us, Operation Sindhoor has already exposed a lot of Gaps and Shortfalls in the Pakistan Military especially their Chinese Air Defence Systems like HQ-9 which have fared miserably against our missile strikes. Yes they will be better prepared the next time and will fill the gaps in their air defence capabilities but we will use new measures and techniques the next time we conduct another operation against them. We have learnt a lot from Operation Sindhoor and we will be sure to exploit every valuable lesson which we have got from this conflict.

If in the worst case we have no choice but to scrap MMRCA 2.0, then we should just go for an off the shelf Purchase of atleast 50 Rafales (Whatever may be the ideal number), and utilise the remaining cash in our indigenous programs like AMCA, Tejas MK-II, GHATAK, TEDBF, CATS Warrior, missile programs like hypersonic missiles etc to expedite their development time and fastrack their acquisition.
